I think this was very informative, but I would not recommend the junk food that they said was ok. Although an occasional treat will not affect weight, but daily junk food will affect health.
I think it is ok to treat yourself once a week. But not too much junk on the treat day.
I think treats are super important also with moderation obviously or whats the point, if ones going to eat sweets or junk prepackaged ones are the way to go because you know exactly what your getting and how much.
I agree it is good to treat yourself, but probably with a healthier treat and if not then with a small portion because if you over indulge then your treat becomes more of a work out for you.
This video was very informative, I really liked how they told you the myths and then the reason why they were false. Great video, very educational.
Yes! I am not going to almost lie. I love me a snickers. My favorite that I can just not give up……the oversized oatmeal cream pies. I would think by now I would be tired of them. Well, I am 32 and still to this day absolutely love them . the key, do not over do it. just treat yourself occasionally!!!
I agree to treating yourself occasionally. Moderation is the key to it but if you completely deprive yourself that can be bad because it can cause some to binge.
it is okay to treat yourself sometimes! The problem is, most people overdo it! I eat waaaay too much junkfood on a normal basis.

I feel very fortunate that I don’t crave sweets and junk food. When I grocery shop I do not even look twice at any chips, ice cream, cakes, or anything sugary like that. I know people who “HAVE” to have desert after every meal it seems like. I usually don’t even want cake when I go to a birthday party. It is not that it doesn’t taste good but I know it isn’t good for me and I don’t crave it so I just do not eat it. My ex fiance always had to go to the store with me if he wanted anything junky. Hopefully my future husband understands I do not waste my money on empty calories :)) Homemade and healthy is my usual method of consumption!
I agree, you should be able to treat yourself in moderations. I don’t like sweets all of the time. I love my fruits and veggies. But a little icecream here and there wont hurt my body. Also being in the program I am in, sweets help me have a little motivation to treat myself for doing something good!:)
moderation is the key. This is something I am having to learn along with eating more healthy as a whole.

I think you should pick one day that you can have a treat. That way you eat healthy except for one day and knowing you have a treat day will help you stay on track the other days.
Of course, it is hard to keep clean as far as eating sometimes you should enjoy yourself as a reward.
I agree with you! I think every once in a while it is a treat to be able to have a small “junk food” item, but not daily.

As a college student I try not to eat a lot of junk food. I treat myself to a candy bar time to time but not everyday. When I began college it was all I ate. I wanted to make sure I completed all my work so I stayed in my dorm. I barely ate meals. I weighed 155 pounds. Now I am around 140-135.
I completely agree that it is good to treat yourself every now and then, but not to over do it.
I have never been a person who HAS to have junk food, but it is nice to eat some occasionally.
I agree. Junk food should not be part of your diet plan. I stop eating junk food, and I feel much better.
I don’t eat that much junk food either anymore. And when I do, trust me, I pay for it by the way i feel.
While I don’t think eating junk food should be a part of your every day diet, I do think it’s okay to have a little every now and then.
I try so hard not to eat junk food, but it’s so much easier to satisfy hunger when you’re a busy mom of almost four.
It’s amazing how much better you can feel by just cutting out junk food.
I agree. Since I have cut out junk food I feel so much better throughout the day. I still treat myself every once in awhile but for the most part junk food always makes me feel like crap afterwards.

I think the problem with junk food, for me at least, is not that I have it in my diet plan, but that during certain social events and get togethers, there is junk food like chips and desserts and sodas. I find myself eating unhealthy when I’m hanging out with my friends. It is difficult to resist when it’s all around me, and especially when it is almost part of the “party.”
True, but some times it is good for your body/ metabolism.. to give yourself a treat like a glass of wine or some chocolate.

I think that the video was trying to say that you are allowed a certain amount of junk food as long as it is not an over abundance. I don’t think they were trying to recommend it though, just saying that it is OK every now and then 🙂
I also agree. I am very into fitness and no longer have the desire for junk food because I know it will make me feel sluggish.
I agree, although I do love junk food! I feel better the more I do NOT buy junk food or keep it in my cabinets at home.
I feel as if the video was definitely suggesting the snacking/treats as in moderation. I do not believe the video was implying that you should have junk food consistently.
I know that junk food is not good for me in any way, and I really want to cut out all of the bad stuff from my diet, even with how hard i know it will be. I think considering the average amount of calories females should consume, I consume a little more than the given. This is why I want to cut back, I really need to moderate my portion sizes and watch what I am putting into my body carefully. This video gave some really good insight on how to do that.

That is something else to note, it feels like a moral victory when junk food gets eliminated from your palette which can only help your mental health. You get two wins with one stone.
I need to follow this lifestyle and diet. Cutting out most of what I eat on a daily basis should make me feel better overall, but finding the time to do so is hard when you are busy all the time.
I totally agree with you about eating junk food. I treat myself once a week to something that is not so healthy.
I agree with that. I try to limit drinking soda to much less than I use to and it has made me feel so much better! However, I enjoy the occasional mountain dew or two on the weekends, because I think it is okay to treat yourself once in a while and just a little bit of caffeine can be good for your mind and alertness. Just not too much! And once moderation becomes a habit, it is so much easier than it was starting off.

Treating yourself can be very important, you have to change up the taste buds every once in a while to try and prevent habitual drinking of sodas or eating of sweets. But once I started drinking more water, I noticed how much better I felt as well!
I completely agree with you about the junk food being ok. I still think that it as you agree as well that an occasional treat will not affect your weight but eating it daily will greatly affect your weight and your healthy.
I can agree, eating unhealthy everyday will negativly affect your health. I gave up soda and carbonated beverages so that I can have a healthier weight. For the most part, I’ve lost about three inches since then and could not be happier.
There is nothing wrong with a little junk sometimes, I think its all about balance! However I defiantly gained the freshman 15. haha
Yes! I really think it is okay to have a little junk every now and then, because if you limit yourself all the time you are just gonna be miserable. I LOVE chocolate! But, now I do not each chocolate every day it is only for special occasions, unless i’m really craving it for whatever reason, then i’ll eat a small piece of dark chocolate. I really do feel like it is important to not torture yourself and not beat yourself up over eating a little junk every now and then.
I agree. Junk food is nice to treat yourself with every once in awhile. We all need our cheat days to stay sane.
Any food can be considered okay but it is important how much of what it is and how many calories you burn a day.
Junk food is not bad for you. the only real problem with junk food is people eat too much and do not counter it with enough exercise. I know people that work out, eat right and get mad they are still gaining weight or not losing it but they don’t realize that those chips and salsa they eat 3-4 times a week before their dinner really adds up to extra calories.
It’s all about balance. Junk food is okay as long as it is not too much and you are somewhat active.
I think portion control is also the best way to eat junk food if you are going to consume it. I used to could eat a whole bag of chips just sitting in front of the TV now i bake my own kale chips and do not miss the junk food.
I’d love to say that I could limit myself to one small treat weekly, but honestly I can’t do that. With as much stress as I have in my life, I would treat myself every 2 days or so, or else I would completely binge on my ‘cheat day’. So moderation is really key. Small treats frequently are better than very large treats weekly.
I agree with you because if you work too hard for anything that you are doing and treat yourself to a treat. And not a big one just a little one though.
I agree with you on the junk food and fast food. Most fast food now days is processed. Has anyone ever watched the video of the McDonalds cheeseburger? When a burger’s appearance doesn’t change for MONTHS it is not a good thing to be putting into your body.
I am really scared to actually know what I put in my body everyday when I eat. I really try to eat healthy but it is very difficult, especially when your busy with a family and school.

I agree with what Lindsey said an occasional sweet in moderation is fine everyone is entitled to a reward after working hard on a healthy diet but if you make it an everyday thing then that’s a problem.

I am in the same boat. I can workout all I would like but your diet really does play a part in your physical health and getting a figure that you want.
I’m with you on that. Once you get in a habit of eating healthy it gets easier. When you substitute junk food in the equation it just makes it harder to stay on the right path. Limit limit limit!

Definitely true, here lately i’ve cut out a lot of my junk food for healthier snacks like fruits and fat free things. A slow process for me though.
I have been stuck in a bad eating habit before and its hard to break them but once you do you can feel how healthier you are. I stopped drinking cokes and it was rough but once i stopped i felt amazing had more energy.

Eating a small amount of a treat helps to satisfy your taste. It is better to eat a small amount occasionally than to eat the whole package at one time.

a small treat now and then isn’t bad but when you eat a whole package at one time is when you have trouble. I started that this summer. Instead of buying one little Hersey’s bar i bought an extra large bar and broke it up into the scored pieces. I only at one or two pieces a day if i stuck to my calorie requirements. If i had room in my caloric intake after a whole day of dieting i would eat a piece of two.
I agree. Portion control is best with treats or your full meal. You have to have strength though because if you don’t you will want the whole bag of candy if it’s a large bag.
I agree that daily junk food is not ok, but I don’t think they meant it’s ok to eat it every day but just that some of the ones that are made of real potatoes is not as bad as they say.

I would rather eat fruit than a little Debbie snack cake. But sometimes the convenience and affordability isn’t there.

I agree with allowing some junk food daily. However that should only be done if one exercises daily. If they don’t exercise then it will build up and eventually start making you gain weight.
I totally agree that junk food everyday will effect your health. Sooner or later, it will catch up to you. I believe that the videos were very informative but the recommendations should be weighed in moderation.
Yes I do tend to eat a treat every now and again and I do not think it has after my health to much. As long as you are not eating to much I feel its fine.
I think treating yourself to a cheat meal once a week is good. I’ve heard people say that one bad meal won’t reverse all the hard work you’ve done just like one good meal won’t make you healthy. It’s something you have to work at and balance out.

i completely agree! daily junk food is a no go. I am one that loves sweets and i have a slow metabolism so no sugar for me is a better route to losing or maintaining my weight.
I think you should reward yourself for hitting a goal along your way but dont over do it. While you may think its just one dessert it adds up.

I think its okay to treat yourself when you reach a goal or do something worth celebrating. We only have so long so why not eat some junk food here and there. Not saying to eat it everyday but don’t take it completely away because we still deserve some good food that’s bad for you.

This was very informative. Daily “treats” will definitely affect weight and health as opposed to an occasional treat. Junk food is called “junk” food for a reason – I would not recommend it on a daily basis either.
I agree with what you said. It takes little to no junk food and alcohol to use 100 to 300 left over calories. Occasional treats in moderation is best.
I have to say treating yourself is alright but it is so important to get into a good healthy habit for our future. This is the age where we aren’t fully adults and we aren’t still kids. I think now is the the time to get in a healthy routine so we can maintain happy and healthy well into adult life.
I think most college student problems are maintaining a healthy routine because not only do we have the stress of school but we want to do social events do that has a lot of unhealthy things there like alcohol, chips, and soda. College students are surrounded with people who dont make the healthiest decisions which has an affect on them. So I agree that we need to just try and maintain a healthy eating habit and exercise routine.

There is a reason they call it junk food. Its not good for you. Sure a soda every once in a while is okay, but just think how much healthier someone could be only on water.
What I understood is that is ok if you eat food once in a while. I have heard a nutritionist say that you can eat whatever you want but not in excess and not very often neither. People tend to believe that you can eat a lot of fruits and veggies, but the thing is that if they are eaten in excess it will cause side effects.

I would say having the junk for maybe once a week or every other week would benefit for the health better. It is hard to cut down but it can be done.

I agree about the daily junk food, I’m surprised he didn’t recommend healthy alternative, that are just as good but more nutrient dense.
I personally find that if I eat junk food, I feel terrible, and my stomach doesn’t like it, but if I eat healthy foods, I feel better and have more energy. It isn’t wrong to treat yourself once in a while but all the time causes weight gain that we don’t want.

These videos were very helpful and gave me some insight for my own workout routine. I do agree that the choice of the junk food you intake makes a difference, but any amount of junk food should be done in moderation because it does affect your health later down the line.

I think it’s okay to have a treat sometimes but I do agree daily junk food can mess up someone’s health. But I think it’s okay to have a “healthy treat” like a granola bar or a fruit for a snack for a daily treat.
I think someone should be able to eat what they want but in today’s world it’s not as good as it sounds.
I wasn’t fond of these videos, I was a fitness instructor in the Navy and some of the exercise info was misleading. A good “snack” to eat before you run would be a salted bagel. A person that isn’t used to running outdoors would benefit from treadmill running until their body adjusts to new exercise, then it would be better to run outdoors. And as far as calories go, you do need to watch your intake if you are trying to lose weight.
Try walking first to build up before you start running.That is more fun for me to do outside.

I agree there is no way I could just jump into a outdoor running in the shape im in unless it was on a track maybe and i agree with the whole calorie thing also because if you want to lose weight of course being aware of your calories is super important.
I personally agree with the not using the treadmill. I use one at my gym when its rainy. I absolutely hate it. Its so much better to feel like im going somewhere and moving forward like the video said. Plus I have problems in my knee and ankle when I run on the treadmill which I don’t have when I run on the street.
I only agree with the treadmill part because of the impact that it could have on your knees. it does feel good running outside , but if your looking for good cardio, and want your legs to tighten i suggest biking on a machine or outside,

Thank you for the tips of the running indoors until you become used to the activity then opt for outdoor running.
I agree with you. Starting on a treadmill is really better for a couch-potato like me. I feel like starting mild benefits our body and makes us want to keep going more than going strong from the start and quit exercising altogether because it nearly killed the beginner. 😉
I completely agree with you. I thoroughly believe that treadmills are great for training to run outdoors. Taking baby steps with working out is always the way to go. Just look if you take just a week off from your workout routine, you feel it that first workout, which is proof enough for me on your theory.
I like how you put your input here and corrected what you think was incorrect. I agree they should start in the gym before getting far out and not being able to get back.
I am guilty of exercising on an empty stomach because I was always afraid it would make me throw up. I will try and eat something light 30 minutes before working out and see what it does.
I actually do the same like you, I don’t really eat breakfast at all.
Same here no one likes throwing up after a workout super embarrassing and gross and i thought that eating before working out would be a sure way to get sick, guess not.
Its a good idea to eat a light nourishing meal before working out so that your body will have fuel to function.
I would do this too. I didn’t like to eat before a workout but I would always feel light headed if I didn’t eat a little snack before I went to exercise.
I have the same problem.. I have a sensitive stomach so I get scared that if I eat too soon or a tad too much before I workout I’ll get sick. Something I need to work on.
I usually exercise on an empty stomach as well and I eat 10-30 minutes afterwards. I’ve read about what is called the “afterburn effect” which your body continues to use energy anywhere from 10-72 hours post workout. I’ve tried eating pre-workout, and I get sick every time. I don’t think I’ll try that again.
I am the same way because I always run alot and when I run with food on my stomach it makes me feel sick. I have now been having blood sugar problems so passing out during exercise was a issue so now I eat a small snack 30-45 mins before and it has helped.
I have totally tried to go healthy on the diet but I have neglected to include a workout. Probably the reason I haven’t felt any different. I think I’m pretty active at work but I guess it’s not enough because I haven’t lost any weight.
Food and Fitness work hand in hand, but I have found that your food intake is so much more important. Allot of people get it backwards and thats why you see people not loosing weight when they are in the gym 5 days a week. Their eating habbits dont match their workout.
I was told by a personal trainer that a body is made 20% in the gym and 80% in the kitchen. I think that is right. He also told me that some of his clients work really hard in the gym 5 days a week and arent dropping any weight…. their eating habits haven’t changed. You just cant cheat on the food part and expect to loose weight.
I’ve thought the same thing. I WALK ALOT at work and even got a pedometer and I compensated that for exercise….UGH WRONG NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! I know bummer huh!
I am the same as you! I have started to eat healthy, since having a new baby. BUT I can not find the time to workout.
I have gone through periods where I just tried to go “healthy”. It never works unless you decide to make it a lifestyle change. I have also wondered why our activity at work doesn’t count toward our exercise time. I guess it is because our bodies are used to that activity. We need to do some activity that is going to not only strengthen our muscles but raise our heart rates too in order to increase our circulation and strengthen our hearts.
Diet and workout go hand and hand. My Dr has always told me that to be considered a workout it has to be above and beyond what you do at work daily.
I work and go to school full time and usually the only meal i eat is dinner. And by watching these video i am going to try really hard to eat at least 3 small meals a day and see if that helps me lose weight 🙂
Pre prep your food. I did a diet before getting pregnant that made me think ahead about packing my food for each day. It took a little more effort than driving through the drive threw (which I was so guilty of), but it worked and left me feeling more energized and losing weight.
I agree with prepping your food. I have done it in the past and just started doing it again. It is so much easier to have a few meals or so already measured out and ready to go in the fridge for each day. Its the only way I can keep up with calorie intake and stay consistent with a diet.

I am the same way. I work 2 jobs and do school. I catch myself many days getting home then realizing I have not eaten anything today, but then sometimes I also don’t feel like eating that late either. This video also opened my eyes to want to eat healthier and follow the food pyramid.
The first two videos were pretty much the same as everything we have learned so far. As far as the exercise goes, I keep trying to get on an exercise routine because of the potential for osteoporosis in women not to mention how much better I feel when I’m exercising.
I knew a lot of this because we just talked about nutrition in nursing class. I wish I could have seen these videos before my freshman year in college, maybe I wouldn’t have gained so much weight during my first year in college.
Ahhh, the myths that people commonly believe. On the other hand I feel like I should start counting my calories and working out. In all honesty I hardly ever get a workout completed and it would be amazing if I did. I had quit all together with fast food and sodas but didn’t lose a single pound for a whole six months, so I went back to the horrible habits of sodas and fast food here recently. I think I might try it again and add some good physical activity to it.
My wife has lost nearly 100 pounds just by counting calories and working out. It works!

i love soda, but it definately puts the pounds on fast, try to limit yourself to one soda a day and there are some great salads at fast food places if you’re in a rush.
I know what you mean. I used to love soda. Now I think of it as poison because it is so bad for health.
I feel like this every time I watch a health benefits video. Then I realize I don’t have enough time in the day to eat perfectly, much less count calories.
Counting calories and increased activity have seemed to hold true to a healthy body. Getting in the habit of doing these good things can take some doing. The want or need has to be there.
We are fortunate to have home grown beef and let me tell you it is so much differant than what is available in the grocery store. I’m thankful that my family gives me that luxury.
Yes, getting in the habit of exercise and healthy eating can be a big step and it does take discipline but it is so worth it and truly makes you feel so much better.
I like the first video. gaining that freshman 15 is very easy to do. in the video he makes it seem so simple to not gain that weight by just watching your intake and consulting a nutritionist, but it is still easily gained even by doing this. sometimes its stress and eating while studying versus not having time to work out anymore with class, studying, and a part time job. I know from experience.
I didn’t know that you needed to use a heavier weight. Several years ago, I had a personal trainer and she taught me to use a lighter weight with more reps, and then up the weight as the weeks get by. I think its true that some of these “healthy” foods are just as processed as the unhealthy ones.
I also was told by a trainer to use a lighter weight with more reps and increase the weight as you go. I have always used that method. I guess each to their own applies here 🙂
Yes I too have also heard that less weight and more reps is better. Also the tension and the way that you do the reps is very important to the benefit that you get from the exercise.
I always thought lighter weights with more reps were to tone yourself and heavier weights with less reps were to put on bulk. Who knows?
You are right about that. My husband used to workout and that is what he said.
I had heard someone say that women should use lighter weights and more reps for toning and that to build bulk you would do heavier weights with less repetitions too. I guess that is the myth. That it takes more than just weights, repetitions- it is about how often you workout, your genetics, your diet, and hormones.
These videos shared a lot of good tips. I never thought of eating four 400 calorie meals instead of packing in 1800-2000 calories into 2 meals. I do not agree with one point in the second video, however. A little pop-up comment noted that workouts should be 70-90 minutes long…that is a lot of working out for any individual…especially if you are just starting out or you don’t have that kind of time to devote to a workout.
I think they say 70-90 min because when you work out you want to do a warm up, then weights, then some other type like sit ups or push ups then you want to do cardio at the end for about 30 min.
Great information! I’m glad someone has mentioned that some “unhealthy foods” aren’t always as unhealthy as they seem, and some “healthy” foods are just as processed as unhealthy ones! My family grills 97% fat free hamburger often. I also love baked low-sodium potato chips.
I agree. I am trying to incorporate more whole foods into my diet. The processing of foods these days is just terrible. We would probably never eat processed foods again if we actually knew 1/2 the things that are in them. EEKK!!!

The last video could not have came at a better time for me, because I just joined a gym today. I am totaly clueless on how and what to do. This video did give some great tips. I will eat before I work out, because my blood sugar drops and I feel like I am going to faint in physical activities.
The videos were very informative on the facts and myths on nutrition. It makes since to me that exercising on an empty stomach burns more calories because your body uses what is stored not what is in your stomach. It also makes since to space out meals instead of eating so much at one time. Its great advice to work out 2-3 times per week. That makes for a healthy lifestyle and great energy.
I never would have thought that it takes 3500 calories to equal a pound. If only I could cut out Cokes as part of my daily diet, then I’d probably have a lot of those pounds on me. I also like the racecar/streetcar metaphor. I’ve always known it’s better if you space out meals/calories, but I didn’t know you could gain weight from not spacing them out.
Ugh I wish I never would have tried a coke growing up. I understand it is hard to quit. I did start drinking coke zero this past year and I really like them. I have also lost 30 pounds by doing that and watching what I eat.
I only drink soda three times a day at most, although they are usually techincally two servings at a time. I switched to Diet sodas since I was diagnosed with diabetes (thanks to the fact I have to be on prednisone for the rest of my life) two years ago. My medication doses decreased and my diabetes is almost gone now, but I still only drink diet soda if I drink any soda. As far as the sugar-version, I have a friend who made a New Year’s resolution to stop drinking Coke or anything else carbonated for six months. When the six months were over, she tried a Coke- and absolutely hated it!
I kicked coke completely when I was in elementary school, I was addicted! Congratulations on your weight loss!

I love the way these video relates our body to a race car and needing pit stops throughout the day for optimal health. I think I might implement this into my daily eating habits. s-g
I agree i think more snacks good be a good thing. Cutting down at meal time might be a small draw back at first though.
The video said, there is 3500 calories in every pound, and 100 extra calories a day adds up to 10 pounds in a year. That gives me something to think about. We should keep in mind calories consumed verses calories burned. A woman should consume 2000 calories a day. The calories should come from 6oz whole grain, 31/2 cups of fruit and vegetables, 51/2 oz of protein, and 3 cups of dairy. The foods should be eaten throughout the day. A person should eat before they exercise, and should exercise 2 to 3 times a week. Workout, and then rest and rebuild.
I thought strength training meant moderate weight and moderate repetitions; but apparently you’re suppose to find a weight that you can only do for 8 to 10 reps. And I was suprised to learn that vegetarians aren’t necessarily the healthiest among us.

Out of everything, I cannot believe that some potato chips are actually good for you! The less sodium the better, as long as the potato chips are actually made of potatoes! (I also didn’t know that potatoes had potassium in them!)

I tried to diet by counting calories and apparently i’m not good at math. I stayed fusterated the whole time. This is not because counting the calories I was eating just made me more hungry. I felt like I was starving myself the whole time. Now even though I don’t have much time I go to the gym and work out. I also eat healthier.My weakness is still my sodas.
Same here….I’m trying to eat better, cut out the empty calorie snacks, and I’ve started exercising. Too bad they can’t invent a pill to make sodas taste bad; if I could cut out Dr. Pepper I’d probably lose 15 pounds.
I have found that counting calories makes me frustrated and leaves me feeling empty and hungry. For me looking at the serving size recommended on food labels and measuring out ONLY that amount at a meal works alot better for me. I actually saw more weight loss doing this than counting and watching calories.
The second video really showed that for exmple the cheeseburger isn’t always drastically terrible in moderation. i think these points are good examples for a varied nutritional diet that isnt strictly by the book and bland. i really should take into consideration the points that the third video provided because i am not a work out person at all.
A cheeseburger is my favorite meal, and as long as the meat is lean, the bun is whole grain, and the cheese is low fat, why not eat it.
I am going to work on strength training. My husband has been doing it and has really seen quicker results!!! I am going to count calories,a nd perhaps re join weight watchers!
It is unbelievable to realise the damages coke does to our teeth and Body.The acid erodes our dental enamel leaving our teeth weak.The coke is filled with sugar leading to obesity and diabetes.I know these are bad but i love cokes…..Please i need HELP!!!!!!! these were great videos! i am so glad to know that there are vidoes out there expressing how good carbs can and should be eaten, this is where out energy comes from so that run that was talked about can be achieved. Although I do not eat most of the time before I run I do sometimes have a small banana if i am feeling sluggish and this seems to help. eating right and daily activity are a vital part of our lives!!
I was pretty inpressed with the busting the myth video. This helped to to know the truth on some of the things we all think we are informed on when it comes to losing weight. I have always wondered if it was better to workout after you have eaten or before. My theory has always been to go afterwards so you will burn off what you have eaten. I like what the dietician said about eating hamburgers and chips are okay in moderation if you are using quality meet and potatoe chips with no or low sodium. I think being on a diet to lose weight is great but we have to remember that there is always the ocassional craving and it is okay to give in just do not over do it.

I know that it is a good idea, but counting calories seems so hard to keep up with and so time consuming. I don’t think that I take in too many calories but I very rarely exercise. I like physical activity but I just don’t have enough time in the day to get everything done.
Even a little exercise, such as a few jumping jacks or crunches when you first wake up or before bed can make a difference!
I think this was a really good video. It kinda hit home for me because I used to be really good at counting calories and exercising. Every day I would jog 2 miles and eat no more then 12,000 calories a day. I havent done that in a long time because I am just to busy now, but I felt so much better when I did do it.
I lost over 30 lbs doing that, and I too felt better about myself. I have kept the weight down, but I have been eating that well. I need to start counting again.
Gaining 10lbs a year from one soda a day! WOW I am going to gain 50lbls a year if I use this equation. Sodas are my favorite but I need to slack off on them. College students do not realize how easy it is to put on weight. Or atleast I didn’t until I watched the video. I do believe that I am going to cut back on my junk foods and start following the food guide pyramid.
I liked the second video, counting calories. I used to do that, it just seems hard to keep up with when you are so busy. The way she explained your diet like a racecar was neat. I try to eat a few small meals a day enstead of large meals.
I try to eat well but i just havent found the good quick food that is cheep. My big prob with food is during the week i like to eat breakfast. I cant ever find a good healthy meal i can eat on the go like a cupcake that is really good in the am. M-S
In the first video it stated that men should take in about 2500 calories a day, I try to stick with that day to day. I didn’t know that I should be taking in 6 oz of protein a day. In the third video I learned why its harder for women to bulk up (need more testosterone).
the freshman 15 is sooooo true. people that i graduated high school with went through that and my brother gained a whole bunch of weight.
Weight is very easy to gain. Heck i never try and its always there. I try to watch what goes in and out but it really doesnt work for me. M-S
I watched so many people gain their Freshman 15 but I guess I got lucky. I gained 5 and lost it in the same year. I have high metabolism. I’m enjoying it while I can. I think it is interesting how some people gain easier than others.
I really enjoyed the third video it really does take out some of the myths that used to hear everyday when we would strength train for football, track etc.. Fitness has always been a big priority for me, in the past year or so I have really slacked off and after seeing these video’s i am going to get started back up!

Very interesting stuff! I try to work out at least once a week in a gym. If not I will do extra walking instead of short cuts. It was interesting to see the different in meats. Terrible that not all meat is usda prime. I always wonder the differences between ground chuck and ground beef. The lean percentages on meat. Very informative videos.
Well I like how the first video helped with summing up what each gender should take in such as calories. With the second video I liked how she told you that some of the foods that we eat that are bad for us can actually be good for us such as potato chips with real potatoes. And with the third video its nice to know that you should eat then exercise, also you should go walking or running instead of the treadmill.
i know working out is very healthy for the body but with the busy schedule one has, working, schooling, parenting, it just too hard for me to make extra time to work out.but thanks to God i still stay in shape.
I still manage to stay in shape with my busy schedule and the only thing different between you and me is I have two dogs and you have a child. They both seem to keep us busy. Thank God they do though.
I am very active. I play a game of pick up football or basketball almost three times a week. I stay away from sodas most of the time. I consider these “empty calories.” I’d rather get my caloric intake on foods–not drinks.
I know about the freshman weight gain. It’s easy to do when you eat all the starchy food served in the caferia and fast foods. My eating habits have improved now that I’ve moved out of my apartment and back home. I seem to be making healthier food choices.
Diet and exercise are important to maintain a healthy body and I need to continue exercising for the rest of my life–even when I’m working 40 hours a week and married with kids.
I also try to stay away from “empty calories” such as sodas. I do find myself drinking Coke Zero or Diet coke while at work- but working 12-14 hour shifts the caffeine really helps. 🙂
I liked the second video that said we should take pit stops instead of eating all the calories at once. I am a diabetic and have been told to eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big meals. I have been trying do this and it seems to me that I feel better when I do. I just need to watch what I am eating better and exercise more. The third video really shed some light on what I may be doing wrong.

The racecar-pit stop senario worked for me. It makes more sense to keep your body on an even keel. I too know that it is much better to eat small meals throughout the day for even blood sugar levels.
I am attempting to do more weight lifting to build muscle and protect my bones. I’m not there yet but am on my way.
These videos did a good job of addressing many of the nutritional myths out there. I had heard all of the myths before, but when it came to the one about excercising on an empty stomach being optimal I had never really considered this and was suprised to learn that by excercising on an empty stomach you can burn up to 23% more body fat. However, I am inclined to believe excercising on an empty stomach is not a good idea because without consuming calories, which are really energy, you will have no energy to use in your workout and it could cause you to feel exhausted afterwards and have even more negative effects on health and wellness.
I am a huge milk drinker and i have always wondered if milk is the best source of calcium for you? I try to excercise at least twice a week i need to do more than that hearing some of the myths i am in big trouble.
Glen, if we follow what the book says, then am convince to believe that milk is the best source.but personally i think there are other best sources of calcium other than milk
I think that milk does provide calcium but so does vitamin D and that’s outside and free, if we go out just for a little bit daily I personally feel a lot better.
I am not a fitness buff. I try my best to atleast try to eat right. But, there are somethings that i can not eat or even stand the smell of. I do the best that i can. This videos were very helpful for me to understand more.
We only buy ground chuck now because most of it stays on the grill than drips on the grease catcher. I am eating healthier and my wife is just eating and I didn’t realize that working out on an empty stomach could trigger mood swings. This could be the reason my wife poops out so much. Now, I have something to work with to get her to workout. I will only workout if I have eaten 30mins before hand. Don’t tell my wife what I said!!!
I was wondering at wal-mart last week what the differences in all the ground meat was. ‘ Prime’ ‘choice’ and ‘select’ i now know is in order of their quality. I was also wondering if it is better to work out on full or empty stomach; apparently full is better so you wont lose lean muscle or have cravings later.
I usually only buy the lean… and my friend told me to work out first thing in the mornings on an empty stomach.. That’s obviously the morning.. So I would think evening maybe a light snack or protein shake prior…
I have to say I was very surprised when I didnt gain the freshmen fifteen Ibs. I really think fending for yourself and having freedom has a huge impact on how we eat and exercise. I stayed home to go to college and Im still the same weight with a decrease in my muscle mass. The key is to have a healthy balanced meal is by including: whole grain, vegatables, fruits, protein, and dairy products to our daily lifes.
I really like the second video because it really gave me a good visual image of how our body should be feed. I love the idea of not all fast food is bad for us. Even hamburgers and pptato chips can be ok to eat. It’s all about quality, quanity, and balance.
In the third video, I really like how she cleared things up. Like running outside is better than running on the treadmill. Use heavy weights than little weights. We should exercise 2-3 days out of the week. But in spaced out times to give our body enough time to rest and recover. I love that we cleared up all the myths.
I like your theory, eat clean and work out, diet is over half of the struggle. Get the mindset to eat right and let the rest fall into place.
Best way to get in the mindset, look up health problems from obesity on youtube, (surgeries, problems, and such). It helps get you in the mindset.
Video 1. Showed the caloric intake needed for men and women. I never realized that there was a difference in the requirements for each gender.
Video 2. Well I learned that I am in need of organizing my eating habits into scheduled pit stops. I like this concept because it made better sence to me.
video 3. I just wish I could find an extra 70 to 90 minute 3 time a week to devote to exercise. Though contrary to the info from this video, I have a theory that some exercise beats none at anytime.
I agree to find the time is hard, even 30 minutes can be a lot when your a busy person. Just remember you are whats important and so is your health. So maybe a little walk it would help once you start its life changing and will become a habit.
I’ve been trying to give up soda’s for awhile but now I’m more inclined to do it. That’s a lot of weight gain from drinking just one soda a day. I didn’t like the fact that only less than 2% of the meat in the U.S. was considered “USDA Prime.” That’s really scary. There’s no wonder 19,000 Americans are switching to be vegetarians. That may be next on my list.
Yeah I never knew how much soda affects our body and our teeth. It decays our teeth and adds excessive amount of weight to our bodys. I could never be a vegetarian but, if you can pull it off all power to you 🙂
Yeah! Let the cokes go. You want miss them. I drink a lot of gatorades and waters. Sometimes I add Crystal Ligth “to go” packages to my waters for flavors. Cokes just have too much sugar.
the flavors water is good because you have a lot to choose from. but a soda every now and then is not that bad
My brother in law is a dentist and he freaks out about people drinking soda because of the affects on your teeth…top that off with the fact that my sister is in school to be a nutrtionist…they are a pretty healthy couple.
I gave up sodas for nearly 6 months until I started drinking them again here recently, but in that 6 months I not only gave up sodas but also fast food and I didn’t lose a pound, I was more than disappointed.

Wow, that would be very disappointing for anyone. I could not imagine having these results. I still want to try both of these though.
I gave up cokes when I got a kidney infection and because of that I lost about 20lbs so I had a personal experience on how cokes can change your weight. Unfortunately I now drink cokes again and am having a hard time stopping this time because I don’t have an aching pain in my body.
Yes like one coke a day is just awful for your body. I once read that if you stop drinking cokes you can loose like 10 pounds in a month?? Well I am so glad you found what works for you!
I have also been trying to give up sodas and this just gave me a new incentive to do so. The fact about the USDA Prime meat is a very scary thought and the US needs to be working on ways to improve that.

I didn’t have a whole lot of time to excercise or run either but now I take my lil boy to walk the track with me when I go that way we both run out some energy. It’s good for us both and he gets wore out, for bed.
It’s my belief that anything you can do to increase your physical activity counts towards health maintenance. The activity does not have to be continuous. It’s better to park a bit far away from the store to make you walk, or use the stairs when ever possible, put on music and dance to it while doing housework. I know of a doctor who her “core rhythm” exercises while she does the dishes. Imagine a doctor without a dishwasher!
I don’t have a whole lot of time to work out i have a full time job and go to school in the evenings full time but that couple of hours in between those two i do take my kids to the track with me and they love it which is also a good thing for my wife cause they are tired later on and go to bed like they should.
I agree, when I take my son out its refreshing for both he and I. It also lets us both burn some calories and rest better that night.
I agree with the fact that when you have a busy lifestyle it is so difficult to not just drive through somewhere to get food and it’s really hard to find time to work out.

i agree I am on the go all the time which leaves no time trying to exercise or eat right.
I struggle to have time to run too because I am in school full time and I work full time. It sometimes comes down to it when I’m at the gym at midnight sometimes.
