I knew that alcohol could damage that liver because when we were younger that is how they scared us not to drink. It makes you wonder what a liver looks like after someone drinking their whole lives. My boyfriends dad was a bad alcoholic, I would love to take a look at his liver.
I was also scared not to drink so that I wouldn’t damage my liver. I would love to see a comparison between the two one day.
I would love to see a live like that. I think this video was very informative.
So is my boyfriend dad. He would drink brown liquor all day long anf be so sick afterwards. I would like to see his as well.
Alcohol and your liver is no joke it is a very serious problems with teens today.
I think that would be cool to see. I wonder how come their livers are so damaged but don’t show many signs of a bad liver? My grandpa, and fiancé’s father, are both alcoholics and don’t show many signs at all.
I can tell you it looks pretty terrible. I had the opportunity to see a liver of an alcoholic man while I was interning in a hospital in Mexico. The liver had major cirrhosis, and it looked very different from the liver of a nonalcoholic person. It definitely encouraged me to not drink alcohol.
Oh wow! I bet that was a cool experience.
A main reason they don’t want people to drink when they are young is because their brain is not fully developed yet. At 21 most peoples brains are fully developed.
I was also told when I was younger that if you drink it would hurt your liver, although now I know that alcohol in moderation is okay.
I just think that the younger someone begins to drink the higher chance of developing liver disease in the future.
I think they say that to scare us away from drinking and developing alcoholism but like you said we have learned its okay in moderation. Just goes to say too much a good thing can be a bad thing
I would like to see this too! My dad was an alcoholic for years and I honestly can’t imagine how bad his liver must be.
I am thinking the samething. I would love to look at my mother in laws liver because the damage there has to be bad.
I have seen videos of comparing healthy liver versus an alcoholic. It is not pretty. Actually kinda gross.
I agree with you that it would be really cool to take a look at liver that has been damaged over the years and to compare it to a healthy liver.
Yeah same honestly, because I remember that at school at the career fairs they would brink a smokers lung or something but I would love to see an in person liver of an alcoholic.
I also have this same problem. It always makes me so curious about what a bad liver would look like compared to a good liver
I never knew that alcohol kills every cell in the body. I always knew it was bad but that sounds really bad. I know lots of people who drink heavily and joke about how their liver hates them for all the damage they are causing it and then brush it off because they just think the liver will “get over it” or regenerate itself. what they do no realize is that the liver can only take so much until there is too much damage to fix.
Exactly I couldnt agree more!
Totally agree. It is so funny people think the liver just regenerates. I have heard that so many times.
I never knew it kills every cell either. That’s crazy to think about how many people drink heavily daily and really have no clue what they’re really doing to their bodies.. pretty sad.
I strongly agree with you. People are always quick to try to make up excuses so they won’t look so bad, but they will regret it.
exactly why I do not drink!!!
I have always heard that alcohol will damage the liver but had not heard it kills every cell in the body. I did know that the liver can regenerate but only if it’s not to damaged.
I never knew it killed the cell body. I think that was very interesting to find out.
I agree. Some people continue to do things after being warned until something happens to them. Even then some don’t listen to their bodies.
I had no idea that it kills every cell. It makes you wonder why so many people drink.
Alcohol is so bad for your body and this video made me realize it is even worse than I thought. It makes me mad that companies still produce these products and sell them, knowing how bad they really are.
I never knew that alcohol kills every cell either.
My father has drank sense he was like 15 so I can only imagine how bad his liver looks.
I agree as well alcohol has killed many of my family members that is why I watch how much I drink
I didn’t know that it kills every cell in the body either so that is interesting. I also know people that have joked about drinking and that their liver will be okay.
About a year ago, my cousin accidentally overdosed on Tylenol and almost died of liver failure. Miraculously, she is completely better today and didn’t even require a liver transplant. I know Tylenol can be dangerous for your liver, but since Advil can be dangerous for your kidneys- being a kidney patient, I usually use low-dose Tylenol, but only when I really need it.
I knew that Tylenol was hard on your liver but I have never heard of someone overdosing. You would have to take alot of it to overdose, wouldn’t you? I know a girl who takes 5 or 6 at a time. That has to be hurting her without her even knowing it.
I didn’t know or ever heard of anyone overdosing.
Ive never heard of overdosing on Tylenol either. That is very interesting and good to know about.
I was in the military, and I heard about many soldiers purposely or accidentally overdosing on Tylenol. You can take a few a day once in awhile, but it is becoming more common that people on long term Tylenol are coming down with liver problems.
Tylenol is the most common accidental overdose drug. I’ve seen it too many times to count. The max amount daily is 4g. People think it is not a dangerous drug, and will take more than is safe to try to alleviate pain.
I had no idea you could overdose on Tylenol. I guess you are never to old to learn something new.
Tylenol is actually a dangerous drug.
Its scary to think that people cant see an immediate effect on their liver with taking so much Tylenol so they keep taking it because they don’t know.
I knew someone that almost over dosed on Tylenol as well. He had a real bad toothache and took a lot of pills. He had to have his stomach pumped and it almost caused kidney failure. This is when I realized Tylenol, even though it is the best pain reliever to take, can cause serious problems. This is why I have been trying to find healthy remedies to help with pains.
I did not know anyone could overdose on Tylenol. Tylenol is such as easy go to relief from many things. It does not seem to be a strong drug but I guess it is since it can cure and kill you.
its like we’re screwed either way. question is would you rather have a healthy liver, kidney, or constant pain.
So glad to hear that she is better! Tylenol as well as other drugs can be quite serious and we don’t realize how sometimes they can cause some serious side effects.
IN MY FAMILY THERE ARE A FEW PEOPLE THAT DRINK I REALLY WISH THAT THEY WOULD SIT DOWN AND WATCH THESE VIDEOS SO MAYBE THEY WOULD CUT THE DRINKING BACK A BIT.
My family has both extremes- I had a grandpa who was an alcoholic and on the other side of my family, my great-grandpa was as well. We seem to have a predisposition to becoming alcoholic. I’m 20, and I’ve never even tasted any type of alcohol, but I have decided to never pick up a drink because I never want to become an alcoholic. On the other extreme, my uncle (who is severely mentally ill) has dumped entire bottles of expensive red wine down the sink at family gatherings.
YUP! MEEEE TOOO!!! It should be a requirement when turning 21!
I drink on occasion, and most likely more than I need to. After watching this I’m highly considering cutting down and really trying not to drink at all.
I quit after I seen my father go down slowly…Best choice I made at a young age…
That’s a great idea. I knew that alcohol in large consumptions are harmful to your body, however, I had heard that one to two drinks a week are good for you for cleansing reasons. Is this correct or just a myth?
It is just crazy to me how someone can be a severe alcoholic and never experience any problems, but then others experience so many problems. Obvioulsy alcohol is not good for you, just wonder why it effects people differently.
I have an uncle who drank some when he was younger but since he has had kids 26 years ago he hasn’t had a drink. He eats healthy, runs marathons, does Not take protein supplements, but he is non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. It’s apparently throwing the doctors for a loop because they have no idea what is causing it. Pretty crazy.
The first video hit home . I reciently had an insulin test run and found that it and my other symtoms confirmed Metabolic Syndrome. I started on Metforman and have lost 17 lbs so far . The weight loss was nearly nonexistant before this but I am determined to get to a healthy weight and stay there.
good for you just remember that no drug can do all the work for you if you want to be health you have to live an active life and be careful of what you put in your body mainly talking about diet.
That is wonderful, I am glad you sought medical attention and I am excited for your weight loss as well.
Alcohol is horrible on the liver. You clearly see what damage it does from these videos. The after math of what alcohol does to your body is awful. The liver is very important to your health so why not keep it healthy also.
-JB
I think avoiding alcohol is important to keep the liver healthy. I see many people drink every single weekend and I don’t think they know what they are doing to their body.
Alcohol is what has been influencing many young people but has been taking people to develop liver disease sooner than before. Alcohol should not be part of a healthy person’s diet.
I agree 100%!
I agree! My Uncle passed away essentially from liver disease and alcoholism.
The liver is very important and it is somthing most people don’t think about protecting, but once you damage or distroy the liver it is to late to change. Change in lifestyle should come before a person destroys the cells in their liver. It is just like smoking everyone tells you what will happen but you really don’t listen until you receive the diagnosis of a disease from smoking. People just think they are invincible, but all along the damage is taking place.
I agree. You really don’t listen to anyone until its to late.
I agree. We only get one liver, so we have to take care of it.
The liver is an amazing organ in the way that it rejuvinates itself. It can take on a lot of harmful substances and bounce back. However, the hibitual use of any medications or alcohol can destroy it. There are so many people who don’t think it will happen to them or just block out the possibility that their pills can hurt them.
I know, it’s so sad that so many people are not aware of what they are doing to their body. Everyone needs to see this video. It’s awesome how the liver can bounce back after so many harmful things, but after awhile it will destroy.
Yes that is so true. The liver is a very unique organ in the body, but people do take advantage of the alcohol and drugs. If people would understand that once the liver is destroyed it is no turning back they would cut down on the excessive use of alcohol. Cirrhosis of the liver is not fun.
Seems like a vicious cycle: if you become overweight, chances are you liver is “overweight”, producing extra enzymes that hinder you from losing the weight, keeping you fat and thereby, keeping your liver fat.
I wonder about red wine? THey tell everyone that red wine is *good* but it has alchohol content too……We have had lots of Overdoses that have taken too much Tylenol, or drug with tylenol in it…….What they do not realize is that taking a mega dose of tylenol can do more damage than just about any other medecine…..
I don’t think one glass of red wine once a week or so will hurt anything. You have to watch the content of the wine as far as calories, etc.
I think wine is ok as long as you aren’t drinking a bottle everyday. They say a glass every other day or so is good for your heart.
I love red wine! Everything in moderation should be fine, but over doing it might not. They say its good for your heart!
Most doctors will tell you that a glass of red wine a day is good for the body because of the antioxidants in the wine. I know most of my friends that have had kids feel that the wine is also helpful because it helps them destress from a crazy day chasing the kids.
Fatty Liver disease seems complicated but I guess most diseases are. For so many people who drink it is amazing how we even survive. It is really scary to think about how much liver damage we are doing every time we drink. The third video tells us just how amazing our liver is and all that it is able to do. I guess I do not understand how or why people choose to drink when the dr. tells us that alcohol kills every cell it touches.
I think people tell themselves, everyone is diong it and it can’t be bad if everyone is doing it. Some people are just young and don’t know or don’t care.
You have a point. Its just like smoking, everyone knows it will eventually kill you, but no one chooses to quit until they have actual cancer.
Alcohol has more damage to your system than good.I was told that an occasional glass of wine during pregnancy is good,in moderation. How do you define moderation?I have been fortunate to get to watch a liver biopsy and i tell you, when they call it “fatty liver” they mean it to the core.Liver damage is at an increase in the young generation lately.I wonder why????It is simple,Alcohol is bad for your health and has been linked to a bunch of illnesses.
EA
I did not know that fatty liver disease made it hard to lose weight. It is sort of ironic, you get it from being obese, but cant lose the weight because you now have the disease. Go figure….. s-g
I can attest to this. I am now on Metforman to deal with Metabolic Syndrome and I truly had a horrible time trying to lose the weight. Until my doctor tested me, I had no idea what was wrong. So far I’ve lost 17 lbs and have a ways to go but at least it’s finally going.
KH- I was amazed also that alcohol was harmful to you. I really don’t drink alcohol that much but i do drink a glass of wine a week. I wonder how harmful that is to your body.
RE
Some say you should have a glass of wine a day.
-JB
I didn’t realize how harmful alcohol was to your body. I knew that alcohol in excess and over a long period of time would cause damage. I thought that a little bit every now and then wasn’t that bad for you though. Guess I was wrong.
I have always heard how bad alcohol is for the liver, but i had never really what was actually happening to the liver. That is crazy. I never realized just how much alcohol can do to your body. It affects so much! This video really makes me glad that I dont drink much.
I AM GLAD I DON’T DRINK EITHER, WHO KNOW THAT IT DONE ALL THAT!!! IS IT REALLY WORTH ALL THE DAMAGE????
Yeah I agree. I think if more people knew the true effects that alcohol has on their bodies, than more people would be more prone to cut back or stop drinking completely.
I know alot of people who drink alcohol all the time and for that matter take tylenol P.M.s to help them sleep. I am going to make them watch this video so they can see what is happening to their bodies. I have known what happens to the liver in these cases but they never listen or believe me.
(in the second video) I wasnt aware that a persons ethnicity coud determine how they will react while drinking alcohol.
One beer per hour is all your liver can handle. This is amazing, I have been to parties were you see people drink five beers in an hour. That is just really overloadding your liver. Alcohol kills every single cell in your body instantly, that is amazing. Your liver is a very important organ, my mother passed away almost two years ago, she had scorrosis of the liver, I try very hard to take care of mine.
I never really knew alot about the liver untill i read this chapter and seen these videos but now I will pay alot more attention to what things i take in that could possibly harm my liver.
i had no idea that ethnicity had anything to do with the way you take alcohol…
I had no idea it did either. It did not even explain why.
I really had no idea how toxic alcohol really is to our bodies until watching these videos. I learned that there is not a cell in our body that you can put alcohol in and have it live which is a testament to how toxic alcohol must be. Alcohol is not the only liver irratent however, acetamenaphine which is found in several medicines such as Tylenol is also bad for the liver.
The one thing that stuck out in all the videos was how much alcohol does to the body. Which I don’t drink but have before and glad that I changed and stopped because who knows where I’d be if I hadn’t. Its crazy that tylenol affects our liver so badly because ive taken it sometimes for a headache.
Alcholisim is a very big thing these days because so many teens think it is cool to drink. These videos were very informative for any one who has to deal with alcholics every day.
I didn’t realize the affect that alcohol played on the liver and what damaging affects it could do. I also never realized that ethniticity played a role in alcoholisim.
Alcohol tolderances has alot to do with ethnicity. Asian men have low tolderance. we talk about this in biology. Its amazing how the body reacts to somethings
i wonder if alcohol affects the liver just like how tylenol does.
I’ve never been a drinker but almost every person in my family drinks heavily. The last picture of my grandpa before he passed away, he was drinking beer through a straw. I was younger then but I wish I knew everything I know now. I never knew that the liver could only handle one beer an hour. There are so many people that surpass that. I don’t get it. Especially if you know the facts.
That information was very informative because I had no idea that alcohol had that affect on the liver. I was aware, however, of the tylenol and powder medication hardship on the liver. I don’t take much medicine and I am not a regular alcohol drinker.
Tha’ts it! I’m putting down my beer! If this doesn’t kill your buzz, I don’t know what will! I knew alcohol was bad (blah, blah, blah), but knowing specifically how it affects the liver is disturbing. At least I don’t take Tylenol..
1. I did not realize that the liver was afected so much by insuline.
2. Oh I hate to think of my younger days when I drank more than one alcoholic beverage in an hours time. I wonder at what rate the liver recovers from uninhibited drinking from time to time? I have seen documentary films on drinking and the problems that arise from it. I recall that the Native American rece is one of the cultures that is predisposed to having problems with alcohol. More factors played into drinking alcohol than I had ever thought of. This video was very informative.
3. Again, tylenole is a bad thing for another organ (liver) not to mention alcohol. Alcohol is a killer where the liver is concerned, So I guess my second video question was answered. 🙁
It was amazing to me how alcohol is instantly toxic to every cell in the human body!
Fatty Liver Diease
The first video- I didnt really get a whole lot of information out of. It was hard to grasp what he was trying to say. But I did find out that when your liver becomes overprocessed with fat the enzymes spill over into the blood causing insulin resistance. The increase of enzymes causes diabetes. The higher the insulin causes the body not capable to lose weight.
Alcohol and the Body
I never knew that alcohol depresses the nervous system to your brain to your liver. One drink an hour is the appropriate amount to consume if more than the alcohol circulates through the body. I never knew that ethnicity had anything to do with how a person reacts to alcohol. Thats just different.
Improve Liver Function
Its amazing that the liver breaks down all chemicals that are thrown at it. To keep my liver healthy Im going to remove acetamenophen and reacting reagents.I never knew how critical and important the liver was until now. Great information!
I don’t understand what ethnicity has to do with it. As for Alcohol and any other chemical the liver has to process. Yes, I knew that was a risk. You just have to realize anything you put in our body has a effect good or bad. It is up to you to know the difference.
I don’t understand what it has to do with anything either
Ethnicity and genetics have a lot to do with how our bodies tolerate and react to different chemicals. My family for example has a genetic predisposition for mental illnesses. I have not been diagnosed with any problems but I still have to be very careful what kinds of medications I take because they can effect me in really different ways. For example I can not take Night Quell to go to sleep when I have a cold because it will actually wake me up like a strong cup of coffee.
I have seen the affects of alcohol on the liver and its not a pretty site. I didn’t know that ethnicity had anything to with the liver and alcohol. Does that mean that some ethnic groups can drink more or less than others? I found that interesting. As for tylenol, I knew it was bad for the liver but what are people who are in pain all the time supposed to do? I take a lot of ibuprofen and bc powders, I wonder what my liver looks like.
That’s what I wonder about. There are so many good and bad side effects to everything. Why take the chance but if a person has to have it then what other choice is there?
I knew quite a bit about the effects of alcohol, but i didn’t know that much. There’s so many bad things it does to us. So definitely if any one is going to drink. please do it in moderation
I agree. I think so many people needed to see this video!
The liver is an amazing organ that processes many chemicals that we throw at it. It would be good for people who are really obese as well as for heavy alcoholics to have to watch these three videos. I guess if we all would just eat a well balanced diet with few sweets and a lower amount of fats, we would probably be able to avoid becoming diabetic as well as avoiding liver disease.
I didn’t realize how many roles the liver plays in the body. Every video I’m more and more shocked at how each organ works together. I also didn’t realize the effect alcohol has on the liver.
Its crazy the damage alcohol can do to the liver. No one thinks about what they are doing to their body until it’s too late. And I agree, I think everything in moderation is true. At least that way, you aren’t causing so much damage to your body.
How to Improve Liver Function
Remove offending agent from the liver, removing tylenol, alcohol. I guess I need to stop taking acetamenophen then because I didn’t know it was wasn’t good for the liver. I thought I heard that aspirin makes the stomach bleed. Well, I still don’t like headaches or any other pain so, I guess tylenol every now and then would hurt.
–SDS
I too was unaware that it was bad for the liver. I probably need to lessen the amounts I take too.
Alcohol and the Body
I knew that alcohol doesn’t work well for the body. This is a great video. When I first found out I was pregnant, the Dr. made it very clear that no alcohol was to be consumed…(something I already knew) but she showed be a picture of liver and then showed me a picture of an infants liver and she let me know that 2 livers were in danger and an infants liver would have the most damage. Most people don’t realize how small a infants liver is already, and then mixed with alcohol that’s a double wammy! Alcohol is good for any prego woman or any who can’t control the liqiuor.
Thats good that your doctor gave you a visual example. Not that it would help every woman but it may convince some to not drink.
I knew that being overweight could result in a fatty liver, I just didn’t know that it would cause increase enzymes and cause diabetes. I am just glad that it can be reversed with weight loss and extend the life expectancy of an obeses person.

I have an uncle that has been an alcoholic most of his life. I shutter to think of what his liver must look like…… and how disfunctional it must be.
I as well have an uncle who has been an alcoholic most of my life probably longer than that, I just don’t know. Everytime I see him he is extremely intoxicated, Im suprised he’s still alive honestly.
I didn’t realize that tolerance wasn’t really a thing. Makes me worry about my friends at uni a lot more.. Livers do an importance job and if you don’t take care of it the price can be massive. Prayers to all that are effected by liver disease and their families!!
I feel the same way about my boyfriends dad. He was a big alcoholic and he doesn’t drink as much now but it makes me wonder how his liver look and how functional it still is.
I’m sorry, I hope that he can kick the habit.
Its interesting how everything that happens can cause something else. For example, the leakage from the fatty liver can cause insulin resistance. I also wonder if they automatically test people for fatty liver if they are obese. well probably not because thats money!!!
I really didn’t realize how many functions the liver has until now.
Its definitely a complex organ.
It supposedly has over 600 functions and is one organ that can refenerate itself!!
I did not get much from the Fatty Liver Video because it was not in sync with what he was saying and was hard for me to pay attention I tried twice.
but the other two videos were intereristing, I did’nt know that you could only have a limited amount of Alcohol in an hours time thats wild, but the second video comfirmd it because he said that it kills the body cells I guess this is why when people drink alot that they end up on the liver transplant list.
I am thankfull that I don’t have a problem with drinking. I just don’t do it I like the parts the Lord gave me and I don’t want to ruin it by a short term fix.
so to keep my liver healthy I know that’s one thing I can do just say no.
I completly agree the first video was hard to understand and retain the information. I always wondered why alcohol was so bad on the liver and now I know why. Good post! Why do people still do things that they KNOW its going to destroy their body? Just doesnt make sense to me.
I agree completely I did not know at all that the affects of or alcohol itself was that damaging to the body I could not believe that it kills liver cells so quickly. I had always believed that a small amount would not hurt you but after that video I will know what not to do next time.
I was always taught that it was wrong and knew that it was not healthy but did’nt realize just how unhealthy it really was.
I did not know that alcohol was so toxic to liver and other cells in the body. I thought that having a small amount of alcohol like one drink every now and then was better than having alcohol everyday. But it seems that any amount is harmful to your body, especially your liver.
I had the same thought go through my mind and I might sound like a real idiot saying this after watching that but here goes any way. I think we hear often about all the things that are bad for us but that we still have to go on living. If I were to spend my life trying tp avoid all the things I am to avoid and doing all the things necessary to be healthy I am pretty sure that’s all I’d be doing. What I am trying to spit out is I think things like alcohol have to be done in moderation. There has to be balance in your life. You can’t eat cheeseburgers and fries everyday…not healthy, but every now and again…..ok..a night of a few to many with good friends once in a while……that’s life. What do you think?
I have always heard tylenol was bad for the liver, I guess now I know its true. Thats crazy how toxic alcohol is to the cells of the body especially the liver. Kinda scary to know all these people who go out and get wasted every weekend. I wonder what they’re liver will look like in ten years.
I agree i used to drink pretty much every weekend i don’t anymore but i never knew well i knew it was harmful but it kills cells everytime it passes through your body that is just crazy
I guess in order to find out if you have fatty liver disease a blood test is needed. I wonder if they automaticlly run that blood test if you are obese? Maybe only if you say you have found it imposible to lose weight. I worked at a gym for a while and I had some women, heavy women, say that they found it almost impossible to lose weight. I wonder if it was fatty liver disease/ I always reccommended that they ask their doctor.
What does ethnicity have to do with alcohol tolerance? Which ethnic group can tolerate more I wonder? What is it in the ethnic makeup that makes someone more tolerant…very interesting to me. I suppose I think of some stereotypes but I have never heard before that a particular group has a higher tolerance.
How much is too much tylenol? I take exedrine PM everynight., and tylenol fairly often.
I also wondered how ethnicity effected your tolerance for alcohol. I would not think that your ethnic background would cause you to have a higher or lower tolerance for alcohol. Wouldn’t your family background affect your alcohol tolerance more than that ?
I was thinking the same thing. How does ethnicity have anything to do with it?
Studies have showed that ethnicity has a little bit to do with alcohol tolerance. I never though heritage would have anything to do with that. It’s kind of strange.
well, i actually thaught alcohol tolerance is something that takes a while to develop , say over a course of time.depending on how much one consumes it and for how long..
See thats what I thought but I see now that its not true. Glad I dont drink anymore because of all the things it does to the liver and other cells.
I too thought tolerance was built up by a person depending on how much and how often alcohol as consumed. The same with any kind of tolerance. I guess there are a lot more factors at play that they just dont teach about.
I agree, I’ll never knew how the ethnicity is with a little bit of alcohol tolerance.
