I never realized that good carbs made you feel fuller for longer, therefore you ate less. Maybe I need to eat things with more grain so I can have some more energy?! I could for sure use a little extra.

I know the feeling, if I had known good carbs lastest longer and gave me more energy the switch would have happened a long time ago…

I dont usually eat breakfast, but lately I have been packing turkey meat with 2 slices of wheat bread and this def fills me up until my lunch (sometimes I’m still not hungry when my lunch rolls around). I usually grab like a bag of chip or some junk food thinking that if I munch a little here and there it’ll fill me up until lunch, but it makes me hungrier. Fruits/Veggies/Healthy foods do help you stay fuller throughout the day.

I didn’t know that either, but I will sure remember that now. I take my lunch everyday and usually pack the 100 cal snacks which are good, but don’t stay with me for very long.

Keirsten Scott Scott KQ September 9, 2011 at 1:15 pm

I don’t really eat bread cereal or potatoes soo… that’s probably why I can’t go a day without taking a nap.. I HAVE NO ENERGY. But those pizza rolls looked really good!

Oh my gosh!!! I wish I could be you! I absolutely love my pastas, cereals, breads, potatoes, etc etc. But I have also realized that eating too much carbs can cause you to be tired as well. So always think in moderation because too high or too low can cause problems!

i agree i normally don’t eat breakfast but i think if i ate some i would have a lot more energy

This just re-emphasizes that I have to stop not eating breakfast! The mornings are the worst time for me, and the easiest to make bad nutrition choices.

TMann October 8, 2011 at 6:07 pm

No matter what, I always make sure I eat breakfast. There has been a few times it was missed and the rest of the day I felt like I was hungry but extremely tired.

welchjt September 11, 2011 at 12:48 am

really enjoyed this video it was very informative i liked learning about how good carbs make you fill fuller alot faster than bad carbs and also i like learning about how when you dont have enough carbs in your system it makes you feel extremly tired

I agree, I didn’t realize that there were good and bad carbs but learning that and what they were helped me to make some changes in my diet. Now it seems that I am less hungry when eating the good carbs!

With me trying to lose weight one of the first things I cut out are the carbs insteading of choosing better carbs. I will say that my energy levels have really fallen off. This lets me see that putting some more (good carbs) back in my diet will be worth it.

My wife swapped and has started eating whole grains. This is one of the reasons she has lost 76lbs in the last 15 months. Deprivation just makes you want stuff more. I think you’ll feel better by adding the good carbs back!

DeitzTL September 14, 2011 at 9:29 pm

I really like to be informed about good starches and not so great starches. I love my white bread and pasta. I wish it would be easier if that healthy stuff tasted better than the bad stuff. Those pizza rolls really looked good.

Reply

I agree. It seems like all healthy food taste like plastic or something lol. They just dont taste as good as the not so healthy stuff.

I agree with you! I wish the healthy foods tasted better than the bad stuff too! Eating healthy would be much easier for everyone. Personally I enjoy lots of sweet tea with all those empty calories and I’m having a hard time giving that up.

I agree I would like to eat the carbs but the bad ones just taste better. The pizza rolls they made did look really tasty. I guess if I had tastier choices it wouldnt be so hard to change my diet up.

I learned in this video that the glycemic index is basically how fast or slow something can be metabolized. What I did know is that things rich in grains don’t metabolize as fast because they allow you to be full faster.Such as pasta, breads, cakes, potatoes, etc.

Reply

Holly Marie September 14, 2011 at 11:34 pm

One other thing that I enjoyed about the video is that it was very informative but yet short and to the point. It really gave us information on how bad and good carbs are in our diet and I think will help anyone to really understand wether they are consuming good or bad carbs because she gave examples of each. So beneficial to an everyday person justwanting to know what to look out for. Then maybe they can get in to the details later.

My favorite part was the animation. I never eat white bread! That’s against my religion. Shame on those who do. I generally don’t even eat the whole wheat. I go for low heat processed organic bread. Yay for fruits n veggies!

Not only do I not touch white bread I have a bad habit of “preaching” to people that do & I am always surprised by how many people don’t know haw bad it is….

Well I know how bad white bread is for you, but to me it tastes better than wheat bread. Now I like the whole grain oats bread but my kids wouldn’t eat that if their life depended on it.

I love breads and pasta but i know that is why i can’t lose any weight by the way viedo states i just need to eat whole grains and not so much pasta. I really like the pizza idea i think i will give it a try. :)

Pizza is good! Fortunately, I do not like to eat noodles so staying away from pasta is a piece of cake for me, but as far as white bread its a little harder. My favorite place to go and eat bread is Olive Garden and Colton’s with there honey butter! But, after watching these videos I am going to try my hardest to stay away as much as possible, but with they way our society is thats harder than it appears.

You should look out for the whole grain pastas, they’re great, my family doesn’t even know they’re not the processed kind!

This was a very good video. I really enjoyed hearing the truth about which carbs are good and bad for health. I think the biggest problem today is the convenience factor. Whole gains and foods take more time to prepare. but it is definitely worth it!

Reply

jennifer October 3, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Yes, your right it is way to convenient. I’ve tried to eat wheat when possible we have now switched to wheat pasta and it was really good

Reply

dee anne kulis October 10, 2011 at 8:02 pm

Good for you! Making small changes will definitely pay off. We have used whole wheat pasta so long that regular pasta tastes wierd to us!

LDorsey October 8, 2011 at 11:42 am

Yes convenience is definitely a big factor! I’ve tried eating wheat bread before and I just cant handle the taste of it! :/

Reply

dee anne kulis October 10, 2011 at 8:04 pm

If I may, I would suggest you try different brands. Orowheat makes awesome tasting whole grain breads. You can’t go wrong with them.
They are expensive, but definitely worth the cost. One good one to start with is Orowheat Oatnut. It really taste more like white bread, but it is very healthy. (Not as healthy as my whole wheat made from fresh milled flour, but it is much better than white bread!)

CHANG GA October 9, 2011 at 5:54 pm

yes its much easier to grab the frozen pre-made pasta vs buying each individual item and cooking it when you get home. I’m super busy with work and school and sometimes for me I’m so wore out I just grab the fastest/easiest thing for dinner weather it’s frozen or fast food.

Good carbs???? Really??? I didnt know that there was such a thing. I thought all carbs were bad bad bad. I also thought it was interesting how “good carbs” make you feel fuller longer. But i sure do like pastas too….yum. Im slowly learning that some things have to be eaten only in moderation, not all the time.

I too was raised eating white bread and pasta. Since I’ve started my new diet, I have started eating whole wheat pasta and wheat bread. I can already tell it makes a difference. Maybe the reason im so tired all the time is because I dont get enough good carbs? Im going to have to try that pizza recipe!!

Reply

I eat lots and lots of pasta and white breads and a lot of other “bad” carbs. Like others said, it is so hard to eat healthy when you are never home and always so busy. There are days I only eat once that day and don’t even realize it because im so busy!

Reply

MedleyHL October 8, 2011 at 4:51 pm

Well too bad for me that all my favorite foods fall under bad carbs. I do like some of the healthy carbs as well but it will take alot to cut out so much of what I really like to eat. This video was just a depressing reminder of how much I need to change my eating habits.

Reply

Ehenson January 24, 2012 at 5:53 pm

I was thinking the same thing. Alot of familiar carbs are under the bad carbs and taste so good. It is hard to stick to certain eating habbits and jst eat right, easier said than done so dont feel bad because most people including me feel like you.

I enjoyed this video and will probably share it with my step mom. She thinks she has to cut out all carbs. I have tried to tell her otherwise but this will prove my point. I can always tell when I haven’t taken in enough because I eat more than usual throught out the day or even the next day. I have recently hear that potatoes are good carbs when I thought the were bad. This makes me happy for the fact I love potatoes.

I thought this video was very informative. It was descriptive, short, and to the point. I enjoy eating whole grain bread and that would be considered a good carb but I also enjoy the bad carbs such as sugar. I need to cut back on sugar because I’m getting all those empty calories from the amount of sweet tea I drink.

This video was interesting.. I love pastas and bread too like she mentioned, but when my dad was still working his primary doctor said he needed to get on a diet that was healthy bc of his high fatty cholestrol/blood pressure so we started eating lots of whole grain stuff. We eat lots of white rice with every mean, the doctor even said he needed to get off that bc it was building unwanted fat in his body so we had to start eating brown rice. You can def tell a difference bc you do have more energy when you eat healthy foods, not just healthy carbs but a well balanced healthy meal.

I don’t really eat bread and potatoes that much anymore which is probably why I can’t go a day without taking a nap or feeling tired like i am running on no sleep. I HAVE NO ENERGY, but white flour makes my butt look bad!

I though all carbs were bad carbs according to the fad diets that everyone is on these days. But if you think about it, we wouldn’t even be able to function without this. I mean how else would our brain eat?

It is good to know there are GOOD carbs, because people mostly know about the bad carbs. I think this is probably because of the obesity level in the US. But hearing about the differences between good and bad carbs is very helpful.

I did not know that pasta, white rice, and table sugar were bad carbs. I would eat pasta very often, but after watching this video I believe i will be cutting back on the pasta, white rice, and table sugar. I also didn’t know that white flour is bad carbs either, i will be substituting. I may try wheat flour, but it is always good to know which carbs are good and which ones are bad!

It’s amazing to me how big of a difference there is between simple carbs and complex carbs. I definitely have to make a conscious effort to have a piece of fruit rather than a bag of chips.

I recently went to my doctor to discuss weight loss. He told me to stay away from from refined sugars, white flour and white rice but he never explained why. Its good to know that the good carbohydrates will metabolize more slowly and release glucose slowly. That way you don’t “crash” shortly after eating them.

They must be making them differenty, because the first time I tried them (years ago) they were horrible and the whole family agreed!!! Including me….

mshackelford January 23, 2012 at 11:26 pm

The host on the video says recent claims about carb metabolism and fat increases in the body “simple aren’t true”. She is wrong and there is plenty of research that says otherwise. Princeton University has done research on the topic, especially on the negative effects of high fructose corn syrup. Americans are getting 20 to 40 percent of daily calories from fructose. Fructose is hidden in most packaged foods in the grocery store.

Ehenson January 24, 2012 at 5:58 pm

It was very informational to learn that there are good and bad carbs and not just all carbs being bad for you. I tend to eat more on the bad side of carbs but learning that the good carbs such as whole grained food will keep me fuller longer and get more fiber. 40-60 % is just so hard to think of as being healthy in a diet and maybe thats one reason why i am having problems trying to loose weight is because im not gettting enough carbs.

I knew there was a difference in the good and bad carbs which is why I started getting whole grain wheat bread for lunches and when the kids want just bread. I knew carbs were always talked about as being bad for you, but I also knew that you need a certain amount of them in your diet. That’s why I have never agreed with people who go on a ‘no carb diet’. What I didn’t know is that there are also good carbs, which is awesome since that is some of my favorite foods…I will just have to be a little more choosy. :)

I had no idea how important carbs really are to your body and also knowing which carbs you need to eat and which ones to stay away from. I have been trying to really stay away from all the white bread and rolls and stuff and eat more vegetables and whole grains to get my daily carbs.

It’s so true! When I go to clincals, I like to eat a good breakfast such as, oatmeal or a fiber bar. The fiber and oats make me stay fuller longer! People complain that eating breakfast makes them hungrier before lunch rolls around, but if they skip breakfast then they are fuller. Yes, this may be true, but it’s important to get your metabolism going in the morning and give your brain fuel. People that eat a high sugary breakfast like Reese’s Puff Cereal or a donut are hungrier before lunch because the sugar gave them a rush and an instant crash then goes through the digestive process faster than fiber or oats would.
