Wow, Vitamin D does so much. That’s ridiculous. I should get some. It does perturb me though that sunscreen blocks the good Vitamin D but allows the harmful, cancer causing rays in. How can it even be sold?

I didn’t really know the purpose and benefits of Vitamin D. According to the video, vitamin D in my opinion, was being described as an “all purpose miracle supplement”. Vitamin D is described as a steroid hormone that has many benefits. It is known to be a cancer killer, vitamin d can boost athletic performance, fights bone diease and osteoporasis.
The recommended daily intake is about 2000 units for children and 4000 units for adults. Vitamin D taken by senior citizens are less likely to hurt themselves if they fall. However, I did know that Vitamin D can ease the symptoms of the common cold. It is fascinating how one supplement taken daily can help the human body. I had no idea that vitamin d had so many benefits.
I was lost on the section on video discussing the vitamin and uvb rays. If possible could any one clearify.
Other that issue, I enjoyed the video.

I’m also surprised that Vitamin D does so much for or bodies. All along people have stressed staying out of the sun for long periods of time when we actually need the sun for most of our Vitamin D. I’m shocked that it activates our immune system and can play a role in fighting the flu.

Vitamin D is neat. It does so much; however, I don’t understand how the sunscreen blocks the good stuff and lets in the bad. Of all the things Vitamin D does, it doesnt work well against cancer, so whats the point of getting it from the sun when the sunscreen you use is not going to block the UVAs, which can lead to cancer, and Vitamin D isnt going to help that?

MEL June 10, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I never really knew how important vitamin D was until I watched this. It can do so much for peoples bodies and its shocking how few people realize that. And sunscreen letting all the bad stuff into your body? I never even imagined that.

WoW! I had no clue vitamin D was so vital. I’ve heard a few reports on how it can reduce the possibility of broken bones but lower cancer risk? wow!lol.

After watching the video I do not understand why the government does not recommend higher units of vitamin D for the population. The positive effects are numerous from preventing some types of cancer, strengthing muscles, and our immune systems. The video stated the easist way to get the needed vitamin D is through pill form and the sun. I love to be outside and engage in physical activity. I found it intresting that there is controversy over sunscreen and that it blocks the “good rays” and prevents the body from absorbing vitamin D. This does not mean there is no longer a need for sunscreen, however, the sun plays an important role in providing a vitimin much needed for our bodies. One has to wonder how much the government gets in finanical kickbacks from the companys that produce and sell sunscreens…

LNS June 9, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Wow I did not know that there was that much recommended by experts! I am wanting to go to the closet store and by a mulitvitamin a start today and yes add extra vitamin D. The government has their own ways of controlling our health and population, Its sad that they wont even look at the experts numbers and see the difference even in cancers…yeah Im gonna listen to one and only GOD…

RLM June 9, 2010 at 4:09 pm

yeah i agree that the government knows this and is trying to control our health by making us unhealthy so we pay more for health insurance…..

Beth Mcraven June 9, 2010 at 11:21 am

Wow! The fact that vitaman D activates your immune system is amazing. And then it fights cancer! Or does it? Why can the information vary so much? If the studies show, prove, that there are so many positive benifits from a higher dose of the vitamin then why are people questioning it? Is it because of sun exposure? If it is then is there any harm from taking a larger dose as opposed to getting some sun? This video left me unsure as to whether or not to take vitamin D. There is the old adage, “If it sounds too good to be true,,,it proberbly is!” I suppose my main question left un answered is if there is any harm in taking larger doses of vitamin D?

LMM June 13, 2010 at 11:17 am

I agree. I’m sure in a few weeks they’ll be telling us, “Stay away from Vitamin D. Forget all we told you before, new research shows its bad.”

RTP June 8, 2010 at 8:51 pm

It is really amazing how much we know about the body and about how vitamins work in the body. Vitamin D has so many benefits and if it can be made synthetically and used safely, then it should be. I try to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun but some exposure is good. Vitamin D is important for calcium obsorbsion, so it is definitely a good thing.

The other day I was walking into the doctors office building and there was an elderly woman being escorted out by a relative. She was impecably dressed, had a beautiful smile on her face for me and a back and hip completely deformed from osteoporosis. And I thought to myself,,,now is the time! What do I need to start doing to make sure I don’t have to go through that. I imagine it can be painful and definately uncomfortable to sit, lay down and walk. So if vitamin D is safe to take in large doses… I am in!

SDH June 9, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Vitamin D is good thing. I would like to see more research on the benifits/harm of too much vitamin D. Not sure why Canada informs its citizins to take more and our government seems to ignore the research presented in this video.

Jessica Brinsfield June 8, 2010 at 6:40 pm

Vitamin D:
I have to shout out an amen brother to the last line that was quoted here in this movie. “Who are you going to believe God or the Goverment?” because the sun puts out thousands of units of Vitaman D a day, and the goverment only recomends 200? you know now that I realized the word “Sunscreen” it really does screen it puts out the good and lets in the bad. I am going to be sure to spead the word on Vitaman D.

QAL June 7, 2010 at 7:50 pm

Why does the government only recommend a small dose of Vitamin D, when there are studies to show that almost 10 times that amount is needed to help prevent diseases? I have never heard all of these benefits given for taking Vitamin D before watching this video. I always thought that you could get all the Vitamin D you needed just by drinking milk. I need to start making sure that I get enough Vitamin D everyday.

Jessica Brinsfield June 8, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Yea, I wish that I had seen this about a year or so ago. I would have started taking it and maybe saved a couple of my teeth.

SAF June 7, 2010 at 12:04 pm

That is crazy how many benefits vitamin D has. I think its interesting how Vitamin D has such an effect on cancer cells. I think we need to find some way to utilize this knowledge. Might have a different treatment method available in the future.

QAL June 7, 2010 at 8:01 pm

As someone who lost a loved one to cancer, I agree that Vitamin D should used in whatever way possible. Maybe with time, someone will be able to develop some type of treatment or medicine to help people with cancer.

RTP June 8, 2010 at 8:53 pm

If it is beneficial then it should definitely be used. Its so nice when you see positive results from drug research so that those drugs can be used to help people live healthier lives.

ARB June 6, 2010 at 6:53 pm

I had no clue that vitamin D could do so much. I find it very interesting though how I was always preached to about wearing sun screen all the time, but the sun screen was really letting in the cancerous rays but blocking out the essential vitamin D needed from the sun.

SAF June 7, 2010 at 12:06 pm

I agree, being able to tan really easy I’ve never used sun screen much and now I’m not sure I would even want to. What good does sunscreen do if it blocks out the good and lets the bad through. That doesn’t seem like a very good idea.

CET July 15, 2010 at 3:06 pm

Yea, I’m fair skinned and my parents always made me load on the sunscreen. I wonder if they’ll feel bad when I tell them about this.
