8 Sugar Cubes = 8 teaspoons

1 sugar cube =

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 sugar packet
  • 4 grams of sugar
  • 16 calories

Recommended added sugar intake per day:

  • no more than 32 total grams or
  • no more than 8 teaspoons added sugar/day or
  • no more than 6% of your total calories for the day

I read that the average American consumes 150 lbs a year. It is hard to imagine. It is figured that most sugar in our diets comes from soda pop. Someone must be eating our share.

My mother did not allow us to eat very much sugar…a good habit. We did not drink soda and deserts were a special treat on Sundays. Thanks mom.

Yes some of us were lucky to have parents with foresight about sweets and health risks even when they did not have names for some of there conditions.
I was lucky because I grew up in an area where sweets were not in abundance, no snack machines, no candy bars in every store to make you plead with my Mom for them.
I think the problem in the US is due to the vast availability of sweets, and the commercials to push them.
