The elderly are at a high risk for constipation, especially if they are unable to ambulate. Fiber is very important to them to prevent constipation. Almost every time a patient is admitted to the hospital, they are put on a laxative. That is because they are not up moving around like they usually are. It’s the same for the elderly that are confined to a bed.
i agree.high fiber for the elderly is a must.i glad there are programs like meals on wheels for the elderly.otherwise they might not eat anything
Yeah my great grandma had meals on wheels. she would hardly eat i though. but we took good care of her though.
This is so true. Just had two aunts 77 and 75 yrs of age with constipation problems. Not enough fluids.
I agree and lots of elderly that live in nursing homes don’t get the proper amount of fluids needed due to not being able to feed themselves.
also they are at a high risk of constipation because they do not move around as much as they use to.
I agree with this statement because the older you are you just don’t get to be as active as you once were.
constipation can change a elderly persons whole mental status.
You are absolutely right! Constipation can cause changes in mental status for just about anyone, but we do have to consider the older folks especially because some of them can’t communicate to tell us what’s wrong, for example if they have dementia or have had a stroke and can’t speak for themselves like they once were able to.
Constipation and UTI can cause elderly people to act differently then they normally would.
oh yes 100% as people get older sometimes their mental health goes with it as well, and memory and common sense. Sometimes it is medical conditions and sometimes it’s due to intake and their digestive tract.
I can see where you are coming from, and it is a good idea to make sure the older people have what they need and make sure they get enough of it.
Totally understand my mom works at a hospital so I get to observe what goes on with them so I can help any way I can.
I totally agree. Both of my grands had low fiber and had to take prescription vitamin d and fiber.
I agree. Fiber is important. A lot of elderly aren’t able to chew or digest the fiber rich foods they need. Benefiber is great. But the main thing we can do to help them is to encourage water intake. We can give them fiber, but that in turn means we must increase fluid intake. 🙂
Using benefiber as one beverage is start with the fluid intake!
I wonder why they didn’t mention any fiber supplement, since they did recognize that seniors don’t like to eat much and need more fluid intake.
I agree with you completely. I am a nurse that works on a cardiac / renal unit which consists mainly of geriatric patients. We not only see a decrease in mobility, but also because my patients are usually compromised r/t fluid overload, they do not or are not able to get the recommended daily amount of water either. As a common practice, we give them either Miralax, MOM, Metamucil, or Senna, and always a probiotic when antibiotic therapy is initiated.
Not to mention it can be PAINFUL 🙁
Yes the elderly need fiber but it just as important with high fiber diets that you are very hydrated to help all that fiber work on moving the bowels.
elderly people need just as much nutrients. That’s probably why they get sick so easily is because they do not eat enough nutrients to help their body.
Yes but I think the water will pass through and the fiber will actually get things going, specifically peristalsis of the colon. But they both have a high impact on defecation.
I agree, fiber is so important for an elderly person who can’t get up and there are so many people that come into the ER and even have to have surgery because of this. So important!
I agree with you. FIber is so important for the elderly to have in their diets weather it is in a fortified food or if it is a supplement.
I work as a nurse tech in a rehab hospital and all of our patients are on some kind of stool softener to help prevent constipation.
You are correct. I guess as being young right now I fail to think about how it is and how difficult it is to eat well and have your body respond the way it should do to less physical activity going on in your daily walk.
I think like this too. I’m young so I feel like I have plenty of time to do better. Just like anything though, your body adapts to the way you treat/nourish it and if you are failing it will only hurt you in older age.
I agree. Fiber is very important.
My grandparents have this problem. They do not get up and move around so it is hard for their digestive system to work properly. they constantly take laxatives, but sometimes it is not enough.
I agree with you. As we age our body functions change. Constipation is very common amongst elders but sometimes is not because they are not eating enough fibers. Also, constipation can be for the overuse of laxatives, not being active, and some meds have this effects especially iron pills, pain pills etc.
elderly have greatly improved from programs such as meals on wheels and what not. If they are educated enough that they know how much a walk out side is for them mayb they will try to do so.
My hat goes off to programs like meals on wheels. So many times the elderly get left in memories and not kept up with in the present time. They need a little more attention than what they get.
I totally agree; if the nutritional needs for the elderly became common knowledge then people will be able to do more for themselves and their family members. They might also be able to take preventative measures on some ailments that plague the elderly.
I agree! My grandma had stomach problems because she did not eat enough fiber.
Its a common problem, my grandparents didn’t eat alot of fiber either and I cant remember a time they didnt have GI issues like IBS.
You are right rself if only Fiber was in there everyday diet.
The worst thing is to think of an elderly person in a nursing home who honestly is not getting the proper nutrition needed. Ultimately leading to death and room for another one.
Yes their diets are so fragile and important. Lots of fiber.
I agree, I used to work at a nursing home and the elderly did not consume as much food as they were supposed to and had to be made too poop. They kept eating less and less and kept having to take laxatives.
I have always know that the elderly have problems staying hydrated however I never put into thought that they have fiber problems as well. I did not know this until my Grandpa kept having to got to the hospital because of his fiber problems.
I remember as a child my grandma would always have dried prunes and she would have one a day to help her go.
I can only imagine how hard it is for elderly people who do not move around as much as they did and have a decline in their health because of things that they not be able to control.
I have volunteered with meals on wheels for several years now- every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I didn’t realize how much they took into the nutrition of each meal making it appropriate for diabetics etc. I think it is great that the elders of communities have this resource. Until watching this video, I had no idea how many use the service!
I also didn’t realize that they took into the nutrition of the meals. I commend them for this and I think it is awesome that people have this as a resource.
Love this program! I work with the elderly a lot and fixing their own meals is a huge challenge. Thank you for your volunteer work.
I think it is great that you volunteer for the meals on wheels program. Our senior citizens are often forgotten in this fast paced world. It is important that we take care of the generations who paved the way for all of us to live the lifestyles that we live now. Thank you.
I agree! Such a great idea!
I agree the senior citizens are forgotten.
Meals on Wheels took care of my grandfather. They were a blessing for him.
I agree…its always good to volunteer to help seniors citizens out any way possible.
I appreciate your willingness to volunteer. What a great program to help elderly citizens.
yes, great idea!
I agree and I’m glad to see that you’re able to volunteer your time in helping your community! It’s great to see people help out. 🙂
I didn’t realize that they take the nutrition of each meal into consideration when preparing meals. I really hope that if or when I ever need a program like this they are in my area.
Meals on Wheels is a blessing to our seniors. I have worked in geriatrics for almost 20 years now, and i have seen the decrease in appettite and lack of nutrition. Loss of independence and functionability i believe have a direct affect on how well some seniors diet needs are met. There are supplement drinks, puddings and a few other things available as well that help with nourishment.
I agree with you about meals on wheels. I am glad they have this program to help with the seniors. not everyone have family they can depend on.
I agree, I have friends that deliver for meals on wheels and they say it is a rewarding experience. Many older people, such as my grandmother, who has a harder time trying to cook a meal could benefit from such a program as meals on wheels. Many older people often end up eating junk food because cooking a healthy meal is hard for them, so they turn to processed foods. They end up not getting the nutrients that they need in order to stay healthy, thus hurting their health.
There is a meals on wheels program right down my road and every Tuesday and Thursday they send boxes out to the seniors.
I applaud the people that put so much into helping the elderly and i didn’t know that all meals were appropriate for diabetics as well.
It is amazing that you serve for the people in need! I’m sure it is a very touching moment for you!
I completely agree with you! I think meals on wheels is amazing. I have took care of a couple of elderly ladies and if it wasn’t for them, they would not get to eat.
I had never heard of meals on wheels and it is awesome to hear there is something to help out there! I wish we had this in my community, maybe someone will start it here! So beneficial and caring!
Yes, I have not either and was so good to hear. I think it is caring and that we do not have one and our community either and many people that I know would love it!
It is so important to help the elderly like you have been doing.
That is great that they take nutrition into consideration when preparing foods, I was not aware that they did that. Nutrition is very important for older people, my grandma takes a lot of supplements, to maintain her health, she is also very careful about the foods she consumes.
She is really smart to take supplements! My grandparents can’t always eat the foods they use to enjoy so that can be a limiting factor on the nutrients they receive.
Meals on wheels is very important to a lot of elderly citizens all year long. My family volunteers year round with the assistance to the elderly in our community.
I agree that I didn’t know that all the meals were appropriate for diabetics. I also didn’t realize how many seniors use the service but it such a good thing to have around!
Meals on Wheels is a great volunteer oppurtunity. I volunteered with them a few years back and had such a humbling experience!
I agree! It’s also so helpful with reminding them to eat and it takes a little stress off their family members.
That great, I don’t think I have ever heard of this program. I am glad to know about this though because I know more elderly people should know, but they don’t and could use the help.
I think the senior meals is an awesome program!!! They really need this and deserve it! They are easily forgotten, and it is really sad. A lot of times these seniors don’t have much of an appetite and even forget about the simple task of eating enough and it really has a very negative effect on their health and can be deadly. And because they are often alone like in a widow situation, they don’t cook just for themselves. I also think supplements are a huge necessity for seniors! And when they can’t eat a lot and have much access to food it is very important for them to have access to drinks like Ensure, because they are great for getting the nutrients necessary in one convenient can. My daughter even went through a phase where she wasn’t wanting to eat much, but she loved and still does love the Pediasure drinks. She calls them her “energy drink”. 🙂 This may have also came from her staying with my grandma 2 days a week and they always had some of those on hand.
As you mentioned above, sometimes elderly literally forget to eat, particularly if they are widowed. This happened to my mother after my dad died. She always says its too much trouble to mess up the kitchen to just cook for one. She eats small meals like grapes, cheese, and crackers, or cottage cheese and peaches. There have been instances when I’ve asked what she had and after thinking about it she admits that she just forgot to eat anything that day. One thing that helps stimulate appetite is interaction with others. Eating is such a social activity for us. You invite someone to go out and eat with you, or to come over for dinner. Birthdays and anniversaries are often celebrated over a meal. A boss may acknowledge employees by bringing a cake or cookies. Because many friends and family members have died, often the elderly population doesn’t have many people in their close circles to eat or socialize or celebrate with.
I wish my grandpa would have got involved in this!
I wish we had a program like this!
I agree this is an awesome program! I think it is important to note that some elderly people also lose their mate and when that happens the adjustment is so difficult that they stop eating, cooking and participating. The Meals on Wheels provides human contact for those people that may be lonely and/or forgotten.
A consideration that must be a priority is educating our communities on programs for seniors in need. If people are not aware of all the options available then we can not expect them to get those in need the assistance
Defiantly a wonderful program for seniors. It is important see after our elderly because we will some day need that same care.
Yes seniors do need help getting the foods and nutrition they need. I have heard of grocery stores training their cashiers to pay attention to the elderly who buy a lot of canned cat food because there is a chance they are eating that for dinner.
I agree. Seniors do need dietary supplements especially if they are not eating enough. Some residents at my job get thrive ice cream or mighty shakes. I have not seen ensure at my facility but thrive and mighty shakes are alternatives just like ensure.
I also think that it is very wonderful that there are programs like these for seniors! It’s so sad to think about all of the senior citizens who are forgotten about by their families and spend their time by themselves and aren’t able to have the extra help and support that they need. To think of my grandma being treated like that breaks my heart.
I agree too often the elderly are forgotten about, especially when it comes to their nutrition. I know a lot of elderly people really do benefit from Ensure.
Elderly nutrition the main message of this video is to help the elderly out, get involved & to make sure the are getting the care and food they need.
My father owns a nursing home and its very difficult for most to chew and get everything in. But, your right it is essential.
It is so important for the elderly to get the right nutrition to make sure their bodies have what they need.
some people can’t fix their own meal, or get out and about, they need the church, meals on wheels, seniors get fresh food everyday, the pantry help get food they need. Its give them time to get out and interact with other.
I agree. It gives them a social life as well as the food they need. The videos make me want to go help out!
People forget about other factors with the elderly such as if they can drive to get food or not and whether they have a stable support system. Meals on wheels is a FANTASTIC idea and a great resource.
I love how many resources have been made available to people who cannot go out and get food for themselves. It is nice to see people helping people. Some people don’t take things like this into consideration.
work in long term care, senior need nutrient calcium, fiber, fluids, vitamin D, & B12.
I completely agree with that.
Great Video! Learned about what Supplements I may need.
It’s really good that we have resources to help our seniors get the food and nutrition that they need.
I agree and it is so great to be informed so that we as younger adults can help out the elderly but also be prepared as we get older. Fiber is great for constipation i have taken a fiber supplement but know that natural fibers such as beans are much better for health.
Fiber is so important, constipation can cause so many health issues, even death if not taken care of.
alot senior’s live alone and can’t get around well, that’s where caring people’s such as church groups , neighbors can help out with meals and assists.
Ive always wanted to assist elderly people with their meals!
I work with senior’s its very important they take fiber to help them eliminate waste, calcium help keep bones strong, and make sure seniors drink plenty of fluid.
I work in healthcare and it is sad how some seniors bones are so brittle, calcium is essential along with good fiber!
Many senior’s don’s have anyone but us. I work in long term care, its very important the senior’s get a balance meal and take their medication. Meal on wheels is great and it give senior’s a chance to interact with other peoples so they want be alone.
I actually just spent my last week volunteering at a nursing home and I saw some of these problems with the residents there. The CNAs had some problems trying to get the patients to eat more but what was nice is that every meal, every resident could ask for anything and everything they wanted, and they got it. This helped the intake of foods.
Ive worked with seniors every since I graduated high school and their bodies are so fragile. It definitely takes a special kind of person to care enough for our seniors to provide them a healthy diet. A special thanks to programs like meals on wheels.
I agree with you about having to be a special kind of person to care for our seniors. I know I couldn’t do it, just because I’m not educated enough do so.
As a person going into nursing with the goal of working with the elderly, I thought this video was very interesting~!! Well scripted and versed, the speakers seemed genuine to me~!! 😀 ♥♥♥ Glad to have watched this~!!
We need to take care of our elders! They need to stay healthy, especially since they are normally more weak than others!
I agree! Many Seniors never had the opportunity the learn the information available today. This can improve their Health.
I agree!
I know it can be tough for seniors to get all the important vitamins and minerals their body needs. The Meals on Wheels program is a great way, not only to provide those minerals, but also to check up on them daily.
One thing I realized when delivering meals to homes is that some elderly people just want someone to talk to. I can’t tell you how many times I would go to deliver a meal, they would sit the meal down and want me to sit down and just chat with them!
I am very thankful that Meals on wheels exist because without that program, the elderly would not recieve the proper nutrition they need to consume in their diet. Sometimes their caregiver, if it is a relative, is too busy to to prepare a meal of their own that is suitable to their diet.
I feel so sorry for senior citizens! Some of them do not get the proper nutrition and how can they when they don’t have the income. Also, so of these independent living centers here do not fix a well balanced meal for them.
After watching those videos, I want to look for opportunities to help the elderly. I love cooking, so I would love to maybe cook or bake something for them. I think it’s sad that a lot of these elderly people don’t have anyone. My dad is a health insurance agent and has to be around a lot of elderly people. And just him coming to their homes really is a blessing to a lot of these people who don’t have anyone or talk to anyone very often.
I agree. These videos made me really think about the importance of senior nutrition, and after watching, I really want to involved in helping the elderly. I live in an area with a large elderly population, and I think that I could easily find opportunities to get involved. Something as simple as bringing them fresh produce or a meal that you prepared a little extra of the night before can make a big difference in their lives.
I can see how the elderly’s body has a much harder time breaking down nutrients, and that it is very important for them to receive all of them! I think we all should try to educate seniors about the importance of them receiving all of their nutrients with age!
I really liked this video as my parents grow older I am always trying to tell them what foods they should eat to get what sort of vitamins and minerals and fiber etc. They always ask me questions about nutrition because everytime I learn something I inform them especially my mom since she does the cooking and grocery shopping.
Most of us do not realize that some people do not get their nutrition due to income level. Especially the elderly. Breaks my heart but the meals on wheels is a wonderful program providing them the meals and nutrition that they need.
Yes, things that are good for us are soo expensive while the things that are bad for us are so cheap. Which is why the obesity rate is so high im sure.
It’s sad that a senior’s nutrition is affected because of there income level, they cannot physically cook or shop for themselves, if they don’t have others people to care for them. But the meals on wheels is a great program providing food to the seniors.
This video does a good job in addressing all the nutritional highlights for senior citizens. It makes me happy to know that there are many groups that ensure the elderly are meeting thier nutritional requirements regardless of income or mobility. Additionally, I did not know that with age the risk for dehydration increases.
It makes me happy too to know that such good measures are being taken with our elder society! But I did know about the risk of dehydration so always try to encourage elders to drink anything they can – especially water, though.
I agree! This video was great! Its awesome to know that so many people still have such a great heart to help people they don’t even know.
I really liked this video. I believe older people do need to take in more vitamins and minerals. My grandparents always were lacking some. They never wanted to drink much milk or take any supplements for it. After watching this video, I’m glad to know that they need as much as we do, and it was very informative.
Also, I learned fluid is very important to keep from dehydrating.
All in all, this information was very useful!
I just re-watched the first video on the importance of certain items as you age like calcium, fiber, and fluids in general. I know my grandma always has trouble going to the bathroom and she also has stomach issues a lot. A number of my elderly patients do as well and I always emphasis to them the same things stated in the video. Fiber and fluids are so great for the digestive system as well as magnesium.
It seems like the world forgets that old people need good food for them too
I am happy to see that there are programs out there for our senior citizens. Its not easy to get 100% of what you need in your diet especially for senior citizens who don’t get around very well without help.
I’ve known about the Meals on Wheels for years and I think it’s a wonderful program, so many elderly people rely on it, and greatly need it. You can tell from the video they are very appreciative of getting these balanced meals, and it’s sad to think what would they do without this program, I hope it continues forever.
I agree with you. I would be so sad if they there wasn’t programs like this to help with the elderly people. More people need to be willing to make sure these people get the help and meals they need.
This is why its so important to treat our kids right because they’ll be making the decisions about our care in the latter part of our lives, lol. In all honesty though this is a very sad problem and would be very hard pressed to say that it wouldn’t make anyone with a heart want to get involved. I am glad however to see that there are many programs trying to help with this situation. I’m just glad that I was able to be there for my parents and hope that my kids will be there for me and my wife. I do know people who are in good health and in their 60’s who don’t have a support system, what will they do when the time comes for them to need constant care?
I am happy that there are alternatives for senior citizens. If you know someone today that needs a little extra help with eating some healthy foods, cook them a meal and take it to them! We need to take care of our old folks!
I agree!! I help some of my older family members everyday! We have to remember that in the future we will need help as well, so we need to learn why we are young
I have to say that I admire the Asian population that takes care of their parents and grandparents. It seems sometimes that we send our elders to a retirement home and forget about them. The healthier that we can keep them through nutrition; the healthier that their minds and bodies will stay for many years to come
This is so true my grandmother is almost 90 and we couldn’t do the nursing home. She’s actually very healthy except she has Alzheimer’s and is unable to remember how to take care of herself. We decided to get home health care round the clock, unfortunately not everyone can afford to do this but I’m so glad that we are able to. She lives right beside me and my mom lives across the street so we are able to go check on her and visit with her anytime we want.
I hate how the elderly are not appreciated like they should be. So many people just shove them off and give them to some government agency and think that they are going to be taken care of. The elderly need different types of food to give them strength and it is completely different to my needs. I love the elderly and know that they are more important and should be seen as such.
I was so saddened to see all the reasons that seniors don’t have adequate food resources. The meal program for seniors is a phenomenal concept and I am so thankful there are groups like this that help senior adults with things we take for granted everyday.
It is very important for someone to shop with the elderly if you think they may need assistance. i think all these factors play a big role in the health of many seniors. Many may think they know best but will still need a hand in selecting the best for them.
I think it is very important for us to help the elderly as well! It seems like health facts are always changing and are more than likely completely different than when they were educated about it.
It’s sad that that these people have no one to care for them or to spend time. Senior meals on wheels is a great organization, I’m very glad to hear about it. Plus the people get healthy meals, and to spend time with other seniors at the center.
It is so sad to think that some people can not get up and around to cook their own meals and if it wasn’t for Meals on Wheels they would starve. I think it is a great program. I think it has a lot to do with weakness, some just can not get out and go shopping or cook. Elderly people should not be living alone unless they can prove that they are stable.
I admire the Asian population that takes care of their parents and grandparents. It seems sometimes that we send our elders to a retirement home and forget about them. The healthier that we can keep them through nutrition; the healthier that their minds and bodies will stay for many years to come
I think Meals on Wheels is the greatest idea ever. My grandfather was a recipient of Meals on Wheels for a while. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s almost ten years ago and since then it’s been a steady and sad decline in his health and well-being. He stopped cooking for himself and his appetite was basically non-existent. He is now in a nursing home receiving day to day care but I remember worrying about him eating all the time and getting what he needed to maintain his health and vitality. I like what these people do for our seniors at these centers because they do get lonely, especially when they’ve lost someone or just have nothing and nobody to talk to. It gives them social time which is something they need.
I agree with you. These types of programs are especially a godsend for the elderly who are unable to due for themselves due to illness. My grandma was a recipient as well after her stroke as she couldn’t get around to do much for herself let alone cooking. Of course, family help with meals and daily needs but, as you mentioned, programs like this are good social fill-ins for seniors who actually have the opportunity to interact with caregivers other than family and friends. I know my grandma was very thankful for their assistance.
My mamaw has dementia and she definitely can’t do what she used to be able to. These programs are so amazing and without them, many would become sick.
Meals on wheels is such an amazing thing! And if I was elderly, I probably wouldn’t want to cook for just myself. I do realize that I need nutrients as a senior, but it’d be hard to reach the expected amount.
I agree its an amazing organization. I feel the social interaction is helping the just as much as the nutrition is.
I agree the healthier foods are more costly than the others. It is very sad but its true that is for sure. Fast food places can make a cheeseburger and fries for a dollar but a grilled chicken salad is about 7$..?
I completely agree. The $1 burger is much more affordable than the $7+ salad. People can’t afford to eat healthy anymore, so they simply don’t or can’t.
A lot of people not just elderly don’t eat properly do to low income or having to feel a hugh family its cheater to eat unhealthy that’s sad
I agree with you. It is sad that they can’t afford it whether of low income or they have a large family.
I think everyone know seniors need extra nutrients; calcium, fiber, etc. I learned that some fibers can lower cholesterol and there are vitamin B-12 injections available. I love to see meals on wheels. I feel that is one of the best organizations around. Like the people said in the video once you get old it’s not easy to just go out to the store especially on a fixed income. Knowing that people can prepare a well balanced meal for people in need is beyond a blessing!
I completely agree! Without some of these programs, they wouldn’t get the necessary nutrition that they need.
I like to see meals on wheels to. I love that they are able to help the seniors.
As someone stated in a comment, its really sad that the reason seniors are not getting the foods they need is due to income. Also I have worked in places that are mostly seniors and they tend to eat only the things they like or are used to eating. They are easily presuaded to eat more nutritious food if they are presented in such a way to make it look good.
I think our generation is one of the first to really start analysing what we put into our bodies. This group we refer to as seniors, never thought about all the potential dangers of fast food or artificial preservatives and sweeteners. I think that morally they are probably a better class of people than we are today. This would make them more apt to trust the word of their health care provider or food supplier. We have become curious about everything with google at our fingertips. Our seniors are usually not so quick to look something up just because. I think that their are alot of nursing homes and senior comunities that get by with the bare minimun. That is whats truely sad to me.
Seniors I know focus on calcium and fiber. I know several from work, church, and the gym. They have commented that if they focus on consuming calcium and fiber from natural foods, take a good multivitamin, and stay active, they maintain/improve their overall health.
Yes they do, fiber for sure!
I completely agree. I help my grandmother out with her fiber intake of what she should and should not be eating.
Its important for seniors to get more nutrients in there diet I am thankful to see meals on wheels and other programs that help seniors in there daily challenge of eating healthy.
My grandfather depended on meals on wheels to get a good lunch and he loved seeing the driver everyday. The driver was wonderful and made my grandfather feel like he was the only one on his route.
Calcium fortified orange juice will help me.
I appreciate Senior Meals programs. However they cannot do it all. We need to become more aware of elderly neighbors that need this type of assistance and participate in our own areas.
I agree with you 100%
I so agree with you! We don’t even have to be involved in an organization to help. We all have an elderly family member or neighbor that need a little help. I used to live next door to a sweet little old lady that would not eat like she should so that she could make sure her little dog Annie had enough to eat. I just couldn’t take that when I realized her situation, and I started to buy extra dog food “since it was on sale” and take to her. I would throw in that little fib because she didn’t want to accept the help otherwise. It was a small thing, but sometimes a small thing is all it takes to really help someone.
I think a lot of times we get caught up in our own lives until something personal gives us a reality check to point us in a better direction.
It’s so sad to think that income is a reason for senior nutritional problems! People who worked their entire lives can’t afford to eat properly. I’m thankful that there are programs like Senior Meals on Wheels so that our seniors can get the nutrition they need!
OMG couldn’t have said it better :(! Makes me sad and I loved hearing that they are all safe for diabetics and that they are valuable in nutrients.
“Retirement” has become a joke. I am a goverment employee and I have people telling me all the time that I am so lucky to have this retirment plan. T be honest with you I watch these poor older gentelman retire all the time after they have worked their life away for this place and have nothing to show for it. Thats why I am going back to school. Its sad but if you are not turning six figures your barely treading water.
It is very sad that income would be a reason for a senior not to eat properly. We as american’s have so much in the form of assistance if the person would have access to apply for these benefits.
have you ever seen the meals that they give them? not being mean or anything but they are frozen most of the time and there no better then tv dinners
I agree. It is very sad and we do need to do better as a country. There are so many benefits available to seniors but I believe that this isn’t always known to them. Most applications are online these days and that is another obstacle that seniors face when trying to get assistance. Programs need to be more user friendly to encourage seniors to take advantage of them.
It really is sad that income is what is keeping not just elderly people but all people from eating the foods that they need. I think there should be more organizations like Meals on Wheels.
This made me really sad!!!! I am really happy that there are Senior Meals on Wheels. I think its amazing that the foods are all diabetic friendly and that they actually care to make the meals healthy. They make sure to range them for all types of people. I did not know at all about the needs for specific nutrients as you get older. This makes me want to get involved to help out the elderly!
I completely agree! We don’t realize what all goes on when we are used to getting meals everyday. This video makes me want to get involved and help out!
This video was great, it made me proud that I do what I do with my patients.
i totally agree : D i have a 102 year old grandmother and our family works together to care for her everyday.
It is a blessing to have people in the world that provide these meals for these sweet men and women.
