I have to agree with you, there was alot more going on than i thought there would be.

Agree! Didnt expect to see all of that going on. Very interesting to me as well.

Well i am going to be honest, these videos were a bit boring. Any college student should already know how food is digested.

Reply

CKL2 June 21, 2011 at 4:23 pm

I agree these videos were boring and something I have learned over and over through junior high and on into college.

your right everything was repeat lol but I guess the more its repeated the more it sticks lol

BLisenbey August 23, 2011 at 10:43 pm

I totally agree with the boring part. The guy on the first video was very monotoned and almost put me to sleep. They should make it more interesting, especially for the topic, already somewhat boring if you have ever taken any science classes.

These videos were very informational. I didnt know that the gall bladder played a role in digestion until now.

Reply

KNE2 June 8, 2011 at 10:40 pm

Yes, they were very informational and very interesting. I didn’t know that about the gall bladder either.

Reply

NNH June 11, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Right I had to have my gall bladder removed two years ago, now the liver does the all the work in place of the gall bladder.

SMB June 12, 2011 at 10:59 pm

I also had my gallbladder removed when I had a liver tumor last year. It is amazing what the colon does in the digestion process. My gallbladder is sorely missed depending upon what foods I take in.

ts=s2 June 18, 2011 at 10:44 am

This was very informational on how everything goes down. I had my gll bladder out but i still have problems and should keep it because now it all on my liver.

KNE2 June 8, 2011 at 10:39 pm

These videos were very interesting and informative. I didn’t know that different types of food are digested in different parts of the digestive system. I always thought that all digestion began in the mouth when it was chewed up. I also didn’t know that the colon did so many things, or that the major portion of absorption and digestion occurs in the small intestine. It would be interesting to know what part of the body performs the functions of the colon, if you have to have your colon removed, since my husband doesn’t have his colon anymore.

Reply

BNK June 10, 2011 at 4:33 pm

Yes that would be pretty interesting to know

Reply

LLM June 13, 2011 at 2:50 pm

I did not know about how different foods are digested differently either until I had Anatomy last spring. But these videos informed me and showed good examples of how the different foods are digested and where most of the digestion takes place for the different types of food.

I am taking A&P right now and it is interesting to see some things you learn in other classes. There have been many correlations while talking about fats and proteins and the digestive process.

J. M.O. June 15, 2011 at 9:03 am

Over the course of my health conditions Type 1 Diabetes I have learned many things about food absorption most on my own and through some educational reading. Although for me to actually learned I had to want to and see the significance of the information I could receive as beneficial to my health and the way I felt all the time (fatigue, Headaches,Thirst,) to name a few.after I became aware of it value by seeing first hand the association between all these processes. It expanded my knowledge of my Diabetes to a new level and healthier level..

hillml October 3, 2011 at 4:07 pm

I think this video is a very informative video that offered a lot of information that would be very beneficial to a Diabetes patient and also the family members as well. It could be a great tool in learning how to control diabetes and what to do in the event of a sugar rise or drop

WMA June 21, 2011 at 11:09 pm

I find this interesting in explaining why if I drink milk or eat meat my stomach may be calm and then a few hours later I might have indigestion.

Reply

BNK June 10, 2011 at 4:32 pm

Interesting to know that different foods are digested in different places….alot of names of places in the stomach I had no idea existed.

Reply

nicorici df August 23, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Yes, very interesting. Where water is absorbed (lg intestines) was a component to a test question on one of my nursing exams that I will never forget!

Reply

RRJ June 10, 2011 at 5:34 pm

I had no Idea food went through so many steps to be digested.

Reply

NNH June 11, 2011 at 4:00 pm

The digestion process is just that a process, I did not realize that fat is digested in the small intestine vs. protein being digested in the stomach. I guess that is why people who take insulin give it as a injected so it will absorb in the bloodstream vs in the stomach.

Reply

J. M.O. June 15, 2011 at 8:57 am

It is more important than most people think to know about this process. Itt leads to better eating better health along with the knowledge of understanding digestion and where food ends up. which ultimately can help make you more knowledgable about any health concerns you might have for family and friends,

MAO June 27, 2011 at 2:20 pm

I agree with you on that, it does help to be knowledgeable about how organs in the body work especially if you have any problems like reflux, or abdominal upsets.

LLM June 13, 2011 at 2:45 pm

This was my favorite chapter in Anatomy last spring, these videos helped recall what I had learned. It is very interesting to see how different foods are digestive and to see how it is digested. I like that the it shows how different types are digested differently. These videos are very beneficial when learning about the digestive system.

I’m taking A&P2 at the same time as nutrition, it goes along so well in a lot of instances, like a supplement.

Reply

J. M.O. June 15, 2011 at 8:46 am

These videos seemed to add knowledge and more understanding to each video. From video 1 The Digestion process. it explains very simply how food is digested .The mouth,Pharynx, esophagus, stomach expands and secretes acids. I found it very interesting that this food substance that moves down the esophagus to the stomach was called a Bolus, because the shot that I take before eating a meal is called a Bolus their has to be a connection. Then foods into churn and mixed and moved along the process to the lower intestines. This is whee your live and pancreas secretes insulin and other hormones to aid in the digestion and absorption of nutrients. Then completes it’s process by enter the lower intestines when nutrients and waste is seperated and moved along the appropiate pathway.
Video 2 This video goes more into how each of the operations occur during digestion .Which again the emphasize digestion begins at the mouth with saliviatory glands secreting saliva and begin the process It gives better more in depth or the actions that go on while in the stomach, lower intestines and how water absorption and nutrient goes all play a role din the digestion process..
video 3 I really liked this one because it really interested me how different foods are absorbed and at different rates and where they end up also what part of the proces does the insulin I take intravenously come into play. These videos are very good for me to watch.

Very informative video. It’s interesting to know how a part of your body works. It’s amazing how far food has to travel from intake to elimination and how many organs are involved along the way.

This video were very informative and interesting to watch, even my kids joined me. I found it very interesting and it definitely made me stop and think about each process that is involved in digestion.

My mother had a big problem about to years ago with organs and had to have some of her small part remove this video show me alot and more understanding. Even with myself i had my gall badder remove years back so now it more on my liver. I like how it show how the food moves down through your body and does it elimination through the organs. It gave me alot better understang of it all.

It was very interesting to learn the different organs involved in food digestion. I never realized it took so many. I didn’t realize saliva played a role in digestion as well. The visual aids were helpful in depicting how digestion takes place.

Reply

I have taken so many classes where digestion was taught that I have lost count. The colon part was interesting to me because I did not realize the colon played such a big part in the digestion process. I must have been absent during my past classes when the colon was discussed.

During the video, I remember a lot of information I was taught in A&P 1 and 2. The digestive systems breaks down food into absorbable units that enter the blood for distribution to body cells. Process: Oral cavity – Esophagus – Liver – Stomach – Small intestine – Large intestine – Rectum – Anus. Very informative and a nice refresher :D

me too…especially when we had to take the carbs , proteins and fats on their journey’s

Reply

In A&P 2, we had to take a protein, starch, and a fat on a journey from the mouth all the way out, describing the physical and chemical process of each one. These videos would have made that a little easier.

I’ve started occasionally searching for my study questions/answers on youtube, you’d be surprised at home many interesting videos you find. Of course there are a lot of horrid ones as well. But breaks up the monotony sometimes.

This video was a good demonstration of food being digested. I learned the digestive process recently in Anatomy and Physiology.

this video would’ve been alot of help wouldn’t it…I really liked how it took you on the journey and had an explanation of each organ that it went through

Reply

This would have been a big help for Anatomy and Physiology. I could have used this so bad to study, but now I know the digestive process so this does not help that much anymore except to refresh, which I guess is always a good thing to do!!

jen August 20, 2011 at 1:37 am

well I must say the digestion system is not one of my favorites… The video’s are very informative and honestly I wish I had had them last semester they could’ve been very useful to me…I love it that they started with mastication and went all the way through; very good learning tool

Reply

I wish they would show these videos in A & P 1,2. I think that the body is very interesting in everything it does. It never seems to amaze me at all the steps it has to go through just by putting food in your. mouth

Reply

I have to agree that although these videos seem a bit… redundant, they are nonetheless very informative and in simple terms. Also, great animations for maybe an Anatomy and Physiology student who is going over GI content.

it is interesting to know that there are tiny things at play during digestion. i have been through nursing school and lots of science classes but still wasnt aware of all the places food is broken down at and the fact that there is seperate compartments for it all and not just “the stomach”

Reply

dtoennis August 24, 2011 at 9:11 am

Already having A&P and been through Nursing process I also find these a little boring. I like the second video better, it showed in more detail the process of digestion. The first video was more in depth about the names of the body parts.

Reply

reimershk August 24, 2011 at 9:31 am

The second video was my favorite as well. I am just beginning A&P, so I was unfamilar with the information in the third video (as far as different types of foods being digested in different parts of the body) and liked that as well.

Reply

reimershk August 24, 2011 at 9:33 am

These imformative videos reminded me of a science project I made in sixth grade. I made a model of the digestive system with soda bottles and plastic tubing. I wish they had shown us videos like this at that time.

Reply

HAMILTON SJ August 24, 2011 at 6:29 pm

I have learned to much from my Medical Terminology course, as well as my Anatomy & Physiology course. These videos just tied all of the digestive information together! Very informative! I love seeing how it all works!

Reply

jperry1 August 25, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Although I find THESE videos a little on the boring side. They truly are informational to those who have not learned about the digestive process. Something I learned in A&P that was not in the videos is that our digestive system works without us, so to speak. When food is taken in, our stomach tells our brain it is time to “release waste” to make room for the new food being consumed. And if it was possible to take our digestive system out of our body it could “go by itself”. how cool!

Reply

King BJ August 26, 2011 at 2:10 am

It is amazing how complex our bodies are. These videos weren’t the most exciting thing I have ever seen, but they did refresh my memory. There are so many steps in processing foods.

Reply

Koon K August 29, 2011 at 3:12 pm

I learned a lot of this in my A&P class, but I wish my teacher would have told us to watch this video. The visuals in the videos helped so much on the understanding of how the digestive system works and now all the things said in A&P make so much more sense now!!!!!!

agree!! my a&P II teacher showed us a lot of PHOTOS but nothing like this.. sometimes its helpful to see what they are teaching you in action.

Hamilton SJ October 9, 2011 at 11:45 am

I totally agree… it would have been so beneficial to tie everything together with A&P, as well as Medical Terminology. It really does help to read it, hear it, and see the general processes. Feeling the little amount that we do in our own bodies just doesn’t cut the cake!

Reply

Gattis M August 29, 2011 at 3:16 pm

This video would have been so useful for A&P. Why she didn’t assign us to watch this I have no idea. It makes everything I’ve studied make more sense.

That video was very instructive. I like when we get to see what is happening in the body. We just went over enzymes in Anatomy and physiology, and this illuminates that topical very well. Also I have always thought that the colon and large intestine were separate, so that is cleared up now.

Reply

Sparks MR October 7, 2011 at 1:36 pm

I thought the same thing about the colon / large intestine. A&P has taught me so many things about our internal workings. This class has helped show some of the processes much more clearly though.

The process is so interesting, and I thought the videos described it very well. The “flying through the body” method of showing the digestive process was perfect. I’m taking A&P2 right now, and I wish I had a video like this for all the systems I have to remember.

Did anyone else notice the complete candy bar going into the small intestine?

I was very interested in seeing the journey that different foods breakdown in different places from coming in to going out of our bodies.
