I liked these videos. They were very informative and really helps to understand the process of digestion. All three gave terms most would not have known before watching this video. Of the three, I thought the most informative and helpful to me was the third video. It pertained to the actual nutritional breakdown and digestion of food. I was not aware that carbs started digestion as they entered your mouth. This was quite interesting.

All three videos were interesting, but I liked the 2nd and 3rd ones best. It was interesting to actually see the process after reading the book. I learned several things from this video about how and where different foods are starting the breakdowns of the foods we eat. Very interesting and educational!

These videos were very informative. I like knowing what exactly happens to the food I put in my body. I didn’t know that the food you digest is transformed into a term called bolus. Then bolus is transformed into chyme, and ultimately transformed into feces.

These videos were very interesting. Seeing how our bodies digest the food we eat and take the things we need from it is amazing. I didn’t know how the different foods we eat are digested in different places/ ways. I think seeing the videos really helps you understand the digestive system.

I fully agree with you. You can read about this, but actually seeing the processes and how it all coinsides together is amazing.

Actually seeing how food is digested I am able to understand a little better how our bodys use the nutrients from food to sustain us in our daily lives. It is truely amazing that our bodys know excatly what to do and when to do it with the different foods we consume.

These videos are the best i saw this week. The process of breaking down food in the stomach is so complex that only this kind of visual material can make one understand the magic happening every time we consume food. I didn’t know that our digestive system is processing differently for each kind of food. That was wonderful and very instructive for me.

Reply

butch t June 5, 2011 at 10:05 pm

I agree this was a good video and very instructive. I think it would have been very intersting to see a live video of the process.

Reply

TNS-2 June 7, 2011 at 11:53 am

I also agree. These videos actually introduced new material and information about nutrition to me. I did not realize how complex the process of digestion really was until I viewed this video.

TDS-2 June 4, 2011 at 2:15 pm

Awesome clips. # 3 was my favorite. It really detailed what foods broke down in a certain location. I wish I could see it in paper format. What I wonder is how long of a process does it take for each part of digestion? Are those involentary muscles in the back of the throat and how does the hyloid bone work with these muscles?

Reply

PEE2 June 4, 2011 at 6:29 pm

For me TDS-2 is simply magic. Our body is so perfectly made that every question you raised leave me speechless. And the funny part is that we do not even realise that there is such a mechanism happening inside of our body. It is only when a complication occurs in the digestive system that we trying to understand what went wrong. Awesome is the right word to use here as you did.

I agree, they were very informative. Not very hungry after watching them though.

I am a nursing student and have taken all the nursing prereqs. There is so much reading and it is hard to understand but watching these videos makes it so much easier to learn. I think seeing these processes take place really helps. I agree with all those who said it before me, would have been very nice to have this website for A&P I and II. I find it so fascinating how our bodies are factories that just automatically know that to release when. It is just simply amazing. Also, it makes me think about what I am eating and how hard my body has to work to process these things.

Reply

TDS-2 June 4, 2011 at 2:17 pm

I agree this wouldv’e been helpful in A&P. I’m taking A&P II this fall so this should really prepare me for that.

As far as information, the third video was the best. I never really thought about how different food was digested in different places. I really like how the first video explained things more simply. The second and third tended to use less common words that many people may not know the meaning to. If I weren’t a nursing student there is no way I would have known what peristalsis was without the first video explaining it. But I guess that’s all part of learning.

I am a wordy type person and agree with you that the language could be hard to people to understand in the second video. It is like if you have not taken medical terminology you might not know that they were talking about

These videos were pretty interesting. I learned about this in medical terminology, but the videos helped trigger what i had heard. I like the fact that the videos go into such detail. I like to understand how it works when you eat, but not when you eat to much!

I learned this in A&P 1and 2. I find the body to be very amazing at all the task that it does on a day to day bases. The digestion prosess is interesting. Love learning about the body

i can read till i am blue in the face and sometimes have a hard time understanding what is going on. these videos were very informative. After reading some of the blogs i am happy that i saw this before the fall semester begins because i will be taking a&p 1. i always wondered what stopped the food that we ate and the liquids from going into our lungs causing some people to aspirate, and now i know. it is amazing how our bodies break things down and we have no idea what is going on. GREAT VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!

JM2 May 31, 2011 at 9:45 pm

These videos were informative and interesting. They show the complexity of the human digestive system and how awesome a machine the human body is. I know I learned a lot of this 35 years ago in health class but it intrigues me more now. Even the simple mechanics like the soft palate hinging to block the nasal cavity and the epiglottis hinging to block the respiratory system are amazing. The only thing I thought these videos left unanswered was the amount of time this process takes and more specifically how much time for different types of food. Good videos though.

Reply

lmp2 May 31, 2011 at 11:55 pm

i would like to know how long it takes the body to break things down as well. i once was told that it takes up to three years for our bodies to break down beef. i don’t know that to be true but i think it interesting. i used to work with people with special needs and we had some that would aspirate so they had to use thick-it in their drinks so it would not go into their lungs. i always wanted to know how that worked. very interesting.

This is a great informative site. again a great refresher site for digestion as well as information that I did not know. Over all i think it is fasinating hoe the human body works together to make everything work properly and how everything is so percise

I have always wondered two things. How the food is digested and how does it absorb the calories and things like that. It seems like the food should go straight through and you wouldn’t gain a thing, but it doesn’t work that way. I found it very interesting that proteins, carbs, and fats are digested in different areas of the body. This video explained very well how food is digested and put a very good picture in my head. Something else I have often wondered is when people start choking and they say it went down the wrong hole? Can that really happen?

Reply

SMH June 5, 2011 at 10:22 pm

I was also impressed with the video and the fact the different things like proteins, carbs, and fats are digested in different areas of the body. I also wonder about that so please post in you find out!!

These are three of the best videos that I have ever seen on the digestive processes. I have taken both A & P I and A & P II but never came to grasp some of these concepts fully until now. The videos explain the concepts clearly. I especially found it interesting to learn that the large intestines aborb water. This explains both digestive health and problems. I hope to learn more about how carbs, fats, and proteins are digested, as well as, the problems that can occur with excess or insufficiency of these nutrients.

I have to A&P one and two and agree that these videos would have helped. Even in medical terminology I think that I could have used these. These videos also helped me to understand what the small and large intestines do. I wasn’t really sure until I watched these videos. It’s very interesting to see how the body works and how the body absorbs what I am eating. It really makes me think twice about what I am about to eat.

i have been on this horrible diet. don’t get me wrong i have lost a great amount of weight, but it is doing horrible things to my body. i didn’t think twice about it until this class. after watching this video i wonder if i did any damage to my system from what or was not eating. i am taking medical term this summer so thanks for the heads up because i am a visual learner.

ACR2 May 24, 2011 at 2:43 pm

WOW!! These videos were very neat!! I have taken A&P I and II and these videos would have been useful when I was studying about the digestive systems. The first two videos were more of a review of the digestive processess. The last video was very educational because I did not know that different foods are processed in different ways and different systems. It was interesting that the fats did not start to break down until the small intestine.

Reply

HMH2 May 31, 2011 at 10:16 am

I agree with you that these videos were very helpful even though I have taken both A & P courses as well. I hope to learn more about the different ways that foods are processed and absorbed. Thank you for your comment!

I am so happy you have these videos on your site. I am very visual and it always helps me when I can see the body processes in motion. It is very interesting that carbohydrates are broken down first with in the mouth and then again in the stomach. Fats wait till they reach the small intestines to be broken down. I find it amazing how our bodies do all this work without us even knowing about it. From the littlest enzymes to the big organs that soak up the nutrients, very neat. Why do we not respect our bodies more when it does so much to keep us alive?

Reply

JM2 May 31, 2011 at 9:52 pm

I agree with you about asking why we don’t respect our bodies more. When you think about all of the complex activity going on inside it’s insane. Even on the simplest of machines we have to maintain them or things stop working. People will get their oil changed in their car, put oil on a bicycle chain, or spray some DW40 on a squeaky hinge, yet they often don’t do what is necessary to keep their bodies in good running shape.

I was unaware that there were so many organs involved in the digestion process, most i had never even heard of. I definately didn’t know about the epoglotis protecting food from entering the respiritory system. I guess i just had never thought of there being a separation in your throat.

Reply

yes it could be your epiglotis not closing. if you catch that at an early stage it could be treated with medication, if not you may have to have it stretched

I did not know differnt foods had different areas they digest in like fats are digested in the small intestints and the starches start in the mouth that was a new one on me.

When u get all chocked up when eating and it feels like there is something in ur chest is that bc the epiglottis didnt close properly?? or is that possible??

All three video’s were just review to what I have already learned but interesting enough some of the information was new to me. I never knew when the food hits the stomach HCL (hydrochloric acid) and other acids are realeased to help with the break down. Then our stomach has muscle contractions to help with the last stage of the stomach breakdown. This is amazing how the body is designed. The video puts everything into perspective for me. Im glad I learned something new today.

3 videos all the same yet different. In the first video when it showed the boleus or the esophagus and how it worked in contracting and relaxing to push the food down into the stomach was cool. It actually reminded me of a snake when it has swallowed it’s prey. Looked like the same sort of motion. I never knew that different foods went “different routs” to be processed in our systems. It made me put more thought into what I eat and the process it has to go through to bennifit our system, then to get rid of the waste when everything of bennifit has been absorbed into the bloodstream. Video one was good but the narrators voice was a littl annoying. Like lindsey one did follow the text more closely.

I was to over excited by the fact that these videos where great visual aids. I am to a very visual person and these videos really helped me picture the processes of our digestional tract. It is interesting how the process of digestion happens in our mouths with the help of a protein called amylase. But only the carbs start breaking down within our mouths. It is so neat how the different parts or components are broken down in different parts of our GI tract. I especially enjoyed your comment on how digestion starts in the mouth and ends in the anus. You are soo funny. I think my anus secretes more than it absorbs;)

Reply

Jessi R. August 23, 2010 at 1:19 pm

There was alot of information in these videos that I did not know before and found interesting. What intrigued me the most was the process of nutrient absorbtion. I learned that the walls of the GI tract are covered with villi which are where nutrient absorption takes place. Each of the villi contain a capillary and a lacteal to pick up the digested nutrients. After this occurs the nutrients are then transported by the blood to all the cells of the body.
