All the videos were informative BUT the second and third were the ones I need to pay most attention to. I didnt know I shouldnt be eating any trans fat and that it causes inflammation, pain, and speeds aging! Also the information on the omega 3 really caught my attention. The benefits are endless and Im worried since I dont like fish and lack this in my diet I will pass that bad habit to my son. I need to try new things and definitely bring fish into my household and diet.

These videos helped inform me about the bad fats and the good fats. The second video helped me with the trans fat because I did not know about how they were so bad for you and now I know what to look for to find the trans fat. The last video helped me with how to get more omega 3 fats into my regular diet.

I started cooking with peanut oil when my mother moved in with me last year. I often look for foods without trans fat. My mother has cancer and I don’t think she has any idea that fish oil could help her but she does now. I am going to start taking a supplement myself.

It is true that fish oil is healthy best found naturally not supplements. Fish oil supplements are best taken at night. Then you don’t taste them all day like when you take them in the morning. Fish coffee, fish cereal…

Informative videos that supplemented the chapter dealing with fats nicely. Some info in the 2nd video annoyed me. Everything in our country revolves around money. Trans fats are extremely bad for us yet fast food companies use them to make us eat more of their product even though it slowly kills us. Then we learn about fancy lobbying which is essentially a phrase used to describe a legal way to false advertise. Money again wins the day!

These videos were very informative and interesting. I never knew that there were good fats and bad fats. I always thought that all fats were bad for you, yet there is fat in everything we eat. I didn’t know that trans fat was not natural; that it was man-made. I also didn’t know that we should have 0g of trans fat in our diet, or that partially hydrogenated = trans fat. I didn’t know that omega-3 fatty acids helped prevent blood clots or that fish oil may help prevent cancer, or that there is no recommended daily allowance for omega-3 fatty acids.

AMG June 8, 2011 at 10:29 pm

I was always told not to eat food products that had trans fat, but i didnt know why until after watching this video.

The fish oil gels are good for the heart and inflammation. I take it for my heart, but didn’t know that it was good for inflammation. I have cut out fatty, oily foods already. I really like the video, told about some important things we need to learn about and change the way we eat.

Shame on the FDA for the trans fat thing……very informative video with the second one will start to look for that partially hydrogenated oils in the ingredients…YAY vid 3 gave me my answer to substitutes for salmon. and the whole video was very informative for a nurse to be..as well as the last video..i have asthma and if that would help it would be great…gonna talk to my doctor. And as a nurse to be i would recommend any of you thinking of adding supplements to your diets to talk to your doctors. some over the counter supplements can interfere with other meds and some health conditions.

Reply

LLM June 13, 2011 at 3:16 pm

I agree, the third video gave me examples and what to replace salmon with because I hate fish. Tuna fish is about the only thing I can eat of fish but now since I know about the supplements and what to put on cereal I can put more omega 3 into my diet.

very important information about omega 3 I dont like fish so I have some of the fish oil tablets. Many things to think about in your way of eating healthy.I eat too many bad foods.

I enjoyed these videos. Although it was alot to take in all at once, it was very informative. I did not know how important Omega 3 was to our diets, but I am sure I get plenty of it. I do not eat red meats so fish and chicken are a required staple to my diet everyday. I just wish it wasn’t so darn expensive for fish! If it was cheaper, I am sure that it would be incorporated more in modern american diets.

Reply

KNE2 June 8, 2011 at 11:06 pm

I didn’t know how important omega-3 was either, and I don’t eat a lot of fish. I need to get me some of the fish oil tablets, because the only type of fish I like is fried shrimp and occasionally tuna, and I know that frying the shrimp isn’t good for me.

Reply

JM2 June 9, 2011 at 7:28 pm

The expense is the thing not only with fish but with all food. The better cuts of meat, the fresh produce, etc. Trans fat = taste good and cheap to make. So wealth not only buys nice clothes and a big house, but a longer life because of the ability to buy those expensive healthy foods.
I saw a documentary showing a family living in poverty that ate mostly fast food or junk food. The point of it was that they could not afford fresh fruits and vegetables and other healthy foods on their monthly income. So because they were poor, they were destined to be fat, unhealthy people.

Reply

aak2 June 6, 2011 at 1:17 pm

Why does the bad fat have to taste soo good?! I did not know that we weren’t allowed any trans fat. I probably eat a lot of it. I should have been keeping up with my trans fat when I was doing with my food record. I do not like sea food at all. I’ll eat tuna every now and then but I can’t stand the smell of it. I probably do need to take the supplements for fish. This class has been very informational about we are suppose to eat and not suppose to eat. Everytime I go to make a meal I think about what I am suppose to be eating.

Reply

TNS-2 June 7, 2011 at 12:08 pm

I agree to the fullest! I hate that the bad fat is the best tasting food ever! How cruel! I try not to eat much fried foods to lower my intake of trans fat but it is still extremely difficult to stay away from for sure!

Reply

JM2 June 9, 2011 at 7:33 pm

Yeah it is harsh that bad stuff tastes so good. In the first video she tried to show that you can make healthy things that taste good. I threw up a little in my mouth when she ruined a perfectly good bagel with mushed avocado spread. I understand the point was to think more creative about healthy food, but damn… that was a bad example.

lots of great information. i had always heard that fish was good for you. but i never really liked it until i got older. i now an in love with fried fish, which i know fried is bad for you but i thought i was doing good by eating fish. and i was wowed by the trans fat video as well. i can not believe that eating trans fat actually can slow down the movements of the body. i am amazed of all the information i am receiving.

Reply

aak2 June 6, 2011 at 1:21 pm

Fried fish sounds like it would probably be the best. I am not a fan of fish either. When I was younger I liked shrimp, but grew out of that fast! I couldn’t believe that we weren’t allowed any trans fat.

Taking this class of nutrition was definitely the best decision i made this summer. Any video clip is so informative for me didn’t know about the role of transfat to make us loose the ability of our movements if not taken properly. I am gonna try to get more Omega 3 for a healthy digestive system and for a good function for my kidneys.

i also agree. taking this nutrition class was a great idea. i am learning so much. i am going to try to get more omega 3 in my diet as well. i had so idea that it helped with the digestive system and the kidneys. i really need this things in my daily diet. i wonder if you can get them in a ONE A DAY vitamin?

I didn’t know that 1/2 gram of transfat could count as grams of transfat. Its sad because so many people eat more than the recommended serving size. We should be informed about that. Its a health care crisis that we are not informed about.

I am not going to say that I am shocked to hear the government taking bribes from these big companies. It’s all about those making money and not the little man. I don’t understand how we, the people, let Uncle Sam get away with this junk. It just makes my blood pressure rise. If there is transfat in a product than I think it should be told to the consumer. No, they should not be able to fancy up the words in an attempt to trick unsuspecting shoppers. Just like the cigarette and the fast food problem, the government has to regulate the population somehow. We are sooooo lucky to have such a caring government, thanks Uncle Sam!

Reply

PEE2 June 4, 2011 at 7:07 pm

I am so upset too Melanie. But we should learn everyday as we did after watching these videos. Our good health depends on us first. We should not trust the FDA to regulate anything. There are so many interests that we need to adjust our way to eat and consume food.

Wow!!! What a lot of information!! I am going to incorporate many of these things in my diet from now on! I love fish, I just need to eat more of it. I don’t really care to to vitamins, I know thats bad but it just seems now days their or pills for everything. I guess I need to break my cycle and get over it because it will be better for my health in the long run. I learned alot about fish oil and omega 3.

after watching the first video, im leaning towards evaluating just how much processed cheese and meat i eat. The second video reminded me of a lesson learned in my A&P class that they are man made so the body doesnt know how to break them down beacuse they are not natural. This fact completely gave me a watchful eye on just what i put into my body. i also learned in the third video the benefits of omega-3. I usually just over look it when shoping beacuse i didnt know then just how nutritional it was.

I did not know that trans fats was really that bad for you. They stick to the phospholipid bilayers of our body. Trans fats are man made and they are cheap and taste good. When they get into the cell walls it could cause many issue cause it stiffs the cells in our body up. My husband is a diabetic and his doctor put him on Omega 3 tablets and it reduced his sugar over a period of one month by 20%. Good videos and great informations

The cheese they showed for flavorful additions was called Black Diamond. When I was a little girl, my grandparents would go to Canada to get that cheeses, and it would come in a big box and last forever!!! I can get it at Sams now. I love Avocado!!!! I love the fresh kind and know how to ake it with sea salt and lemon/ lime, and a dash of garlic powder and celery salt.
YUM!! I never realized that I needed to find mercury free fish oil vitamins. I have bought them, but did not know that 🙁

I did not know that trans-fat actually stuck to our phospholipid bilayers on our cells to make them stiff. Wow, that is scary.

Reply

E-A January 26, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Yes trans fat sticks to phospholipids on our cells. With the movements of these cells all over our body, when they stick together a blockage is formed. It is called plaque build up and can be very fatal.we really have to cut out unhealthy fats from our diets.

I liked to know which oils were healthier because I am a big fry-daddy fan. Peanut oil had a funny taste but I can definately live with canola oil. It makes me feel a little bit better about eating deep-fried shrimp at least once a week! I basically learned man-made fat is bad (but it tastes sooo good).

Though I know that eating chips are not good for your health I found it ironic that I was eating a bag of Doritos’s when the guy specifically mentioned them by name. I was amazed that the FDA lets companies put/use hydrogenated oils in our foods, and not have to record it on the labels because, they use less than 1% in the processing of it.

I only like fried or blackened fish and I consume it on a semi-regular basis and have always thought I was doing a good thing for my body. I did not know that the frying of the fish does away with the benefits. So now I see a trip to the supplement isle for fish oil in my future.

I also know now that age is not the only process that has slowed me down. I need to work on the process of trying to reverse that factor here pretty quick!

All of the videos were good–except– for the second one, that guy just about put me to sleep!

Reply

Taylor B September 12, 2010 at 4:53 pm

I need to stay away from the chip aisle at Wal-Mart. I eat way too many
Doritos and Lays potato chips. I know now that these food products have been through a process referred to as hydrogenation and have too many trans fats that are bad for your health because they increase the triglycerides or fatty acids in the body and affect the cell walls by making them stiff where they are less able to adapt and move nutrients in and wastes out. Hydrogenation also increases the aging process…didn’t know that.

The third video about the omega 3 fatty acids was very informative. I plan to increase my DHA and EPA by eating more fresh fish. I like shrimp, I just need to eat more boiled or broiled shrimp and stay away from fried shrimp. I already eat walnuts, I just didn’t know that they were that good for me. When I eat walnuts, I’m increasing my ALA omega 3 oils.

I didn’t know that omega 3 intakes were so important to a healthy body–but they improve help maintain a healthy heart, kidneys, and digestive system.

The videos showed me that fat can actually be good for you which is something I did not know. I also didn’t realize how many benifits there are from eating fish. I personally don’t like fish but there are way around that with fish oil supplements and the flax seeds and flax seed oil. Also I will be changing my vegetable oil to a canola, peanut or to olive oil. It is very interesting the different types of diseases it helps to prevent.

All of the videos were very informative and definately contained alot of helpful information. The first video helped me to understand much better what are considered good and bad fats. I didn’t know that there could actually be a health benefit to fat but the video helped to clear that up for me with examples of canola, olive, and peanut oils lowering the amount of LDL cholesterol and helping to raise healthy HDL cholesterol. Also, the video helped me realize I need to start limiting how much cheese I eat because it is high in saturated fat. While this makes me sad because I love cheese, I am definatelty considering decreasing my intake to limit the amount of saturated fats in my diet.

I was under the impression that all fat was bad fat. Now I look at the fat on the Nutritional Facts panel in a whole new different light. I can now have the foods that I once thought were bad for me. Now I am a big fish eater and I love the fact that fish are packed full of good fats and Omega-3 fatty acids. I could eat fish every day. Seafood is also another favorite of mine. If you think about it, Jesus ate fish. Hello! He knew a long time ago that fish was good so why have we not seen this sooner????
