I’m a very picky eater, so it makes it hard to eat all of the healthy things and especially to use the plant-based proteins.

I shy away from plant proteins as well and take high protein supplements to keep a good dose of daily protein.

agree i am going to have to work on the plant proteins. I normally do meat proteins.

bbyers6771 February 2, 2017 at 8:55 pm

I think I good with almost all thew listed proteins expect for tofu and fish that’s a no go for me.

ccastleberry February 23, 2015 at 3:24 pm

I’m a picky eater, but I usually steer clear of meats and beans which makes it hard to get the nutrients that I need. I will occasionally eat chicken, but I don’t eat any other meats often. I also hate any kind of beans or peas (I think its a texture thing), so I miss out on all the proteins you can get from beans also. I drink a lot of protein and soy protein drinks to try to make up for that.

Im with you when it comes to beans. I only eat pinto or bake beans. HATE peas. just cant get down with the peas

amandap20 September 7, 2016 at 11:13 pm

I don’t see how you can’t eat meat. Meat is my favorite part of every meal. And yes you are missing out on the proteins you need because meat is the main one.

koverton September 12, 2016 at 2:51 pm

I used to be a SUPER picky eater when I was younger, but I have gotten a lot better about eating a variety of different foods.

Pauffmomma March 3, 2017 at 11:38 am

I started away from meat red meat for about a year and found that too and brands were a really good substitute for protein.

BMcGriff1227 March 6, 2017 at 5:14 pm

My nephew isn’t much of a meat eater either and I’m worried he doesn’t get enought protein, he eats some beans but barely any and he hates peas…. so maybe trying him out on like a protein shake wouldnt be such a bad idea either.

A.Wood June 30, 2017 at 3:06 pm

I don’t eat a lot of meat but I do enjoy it when I do.

swhite1 October 11, 2017 at 11:33 pm

You should try lentils. You may not like the texture of these either, but it is worth giving them a shot. They provide a good source of protein.

mpurifoy February 1, 2018 at 2:43 pm

I am a picky eater too and its hard to cut out things that I like from my diet that makes it even smaller. But since I am trying to be healthier this a really good guide to getting the best protein for your diet

There is such a thing as too much protein. I think that people need to see how much protein they really need so they can balance it out.

lcarroll9978 February 18, 2016 at 7:11 pm

Peyton Blackerby July 6, 2016 at 10:43 pm

Me too! I certainly don’t eat healthy fish, like salmon. I have tried almond milk and I do enjoy the taste, but there is always a contingency it seems. If it is healthy, it isn’t cheap. It is hard for lower economic families to participate in eating a diet with lean meats, since hamburger meat and hot dogs are so much cheaper.

Reply

EPUGH September 14, 2016 at 7:54 pm

Eating healthy is so expensive! Plus the healthy/fresh items run the chance of going bad before they are cooked/eaten. People who have large families to feed and who have to make their food last an extended period of time can’t always afford to eat healthy. I have noticed though that making your own homemade meals and taking some for lunch is way cheaper than buying frozen TV lunches in small portions that leave you hungry!

Pauffmomma March 3, 2017 at 11:43 am

I really don’t like the fact that it is cheaper to eat unhealthy then it is to eat healthy

I always buy lean meats. I don’t like the way that the fat tastes, so when I buy meat I always look and see which one has the least amount of fat. So, atleast I eat healthy meat, even if I don’t eat other things that are healthy.

It’s very easy to make your own low fat turkey sausage patties instead of buying the links she mentioned to stay away from. Take ground turkey, mix just a little olive oil in the meat, and season with sausage seasoning until they taste just how you like them once cooked. Make a bunch of patties at a time, layer them with wax paper and put in a freezer bag and pop them in the freezer. Voila, you have handy, healthy turkey sausage patties. You don’t absolutely have to add the oil, but I think it improves the flavor with a little fat. Just make sure they are eaten within a couple of months.

I sometimes will go on diets where I eat eggs for dinner every night for about 2-3 weeks instead of other forms of protein. I know now I should mix in fish and there are some other types of meat that are good for me as well. Now, I will add beans in there, too! But I had no idea how much protein we intake on a daily basis! The minimum amount of daily protein for a woman is 80 grams. I will remember this.

I try to make 15 bean soup a couple times a year and add in meals of fish and eggs for breakfast all year round. I have my own chickens, so I don’t have to worry about where my eggs come from.

Reply

acgill February 28, 2016 at 9:33 pm

Eggs are awesome! I made fried rice tonight with scrambled eggs and I make boiled eggs several at a time for a quick breakfast or snack.

Reply

dmitchell6 September 1, 2017 at 12:22 pm

I tend to eat a lot of eggs as well, usually for breakfast or lunch though. For me, it’s more of a cost issue as a dozen eggs supply the protein for several meals at a relatively low cost. Though I do not shy away from plant based proteins, I should probably make more of a conscious effort to increase my daily intake.

I do eat meat but just once in a while. I do not go on diets because I do not trust them. I think eating in a healthy way is the best way to lose weight. Anyhow, I try to complete the proteins I consume in order to get the amino acids needed. For example, whole wheat and peanut butter is a snack that provides a dose of all essential amino acids and plenty of healthy fats to boot. It would be better to get the complete proteins from animal meat, but I just don’t like the meat at all. I love to eat fish which is another good resource for protein.

I have eaten meat all my life, however I only eat clean meats due to religious reasons (See Leviticus 11). So I’ve mainly stuck to beef and chicken, and vegetable substitutes. I’ve grown up eating soy substitutes for meat, and can say that, frankly, a lot of them are delicious. So if you’re wondering about it, just try them, and you will find that while they don’t taste exactly like the meat they’re supposed to imitate, they are still very tasty, and healthy.

I follow several fitness icons on social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram. One thing they have in common is that they ALL stress the importance of protein in the diet. Many of them also rave about protein powders, like the one mentioned in this video. I think that a lot of people have the misconception that the more protein, the better. As we all know this is not true, eating lean meat (at each meal) can easily add up to the daily reccomended amount. In addition, protein can be difficult for the kidneys to filter out.- Just another reason to be cautious of our daily intake!

I thought the video on plant based protein was interesting but it seems so complicated. That is, you have to find the right amount of nitrogen intake in the plant so that the plant will have a higher amount of protein. At least, that’s what I got from what he was saying. Plus, a number of the plants he has there can be found at whole foods but they are a bit expensive. I guess it goes to show that there is some truth in the fact that if you want to eat a completely healthy diet it’s going to be a pit expensive. Myself!, I’ll stick with the low-fat meat I find at the supermarket like lean beef and turkey meats.

My family loves to eat quinoa! My son is a football player and is always hungry and always wants more meats. I learned about quinoa from my hairdresser who is a vegan, and she recommended it for my son to get extra protein without the extra fat from more meats. I usually prepare a large batch at a time, then season or substitute it anywhere I would use rice such as in a casserole or to make a bed for layering stir fry chicken and vegetables on. While you are right that it is more expensive than white rice, it is far more nutritious!!!

I limit my red meat to twice a week and eat mostly white meat, as well as fish. I love grilling out and that is such a good way to prepare meat to cook out a lot of the bad that you get with some meats.

I think what surprised me most about the protein in chicken breast is that you really don’t have to have high amounts. Contrary to what was stated in the video I also thought the more chicken breast, ie, 8oz., you eat, the better. But, obviously not since the body won’t absorbed all of it at the one sitting. So, now I know that eating just a bit of chicken breast such as the 4oz. suggested is enough in one sitting.

Cottage cheese does have a good amount of protein in it. I like to puree different fruits such as strawberries, pineapples, and peaches and mix them together with cottage cheese as a “sweet” snack. Lean meats such as chicken, turkey, and fish DO help you lose weight. I went on a binge once a few years back where all I cooked with was chicken and turkey and I kept my carb intake very low, and I lost almost 25 pounds! It was just from cooking with the lean meats. I love me a rare steak every now and again but for hamburgers I prefer ground turkey. You can also find lean pork and red meats but the best for you is poultry and fish. And again, I will say the best thing to add together in a protein shake is flax seed and good fruits high in antioxidants. (berries)

Yes! I loved that movie, it was an eye-opener… however it made me hungry, not grossed out like I think it did most people. The key is moderation… everyone should know that you can’t eat like that all of the time. But I also think the people that deprive themselves of “splurge foods” also aren’t doing themselves a favor. Most of the time they end up binging on those or equally as bad foods at some point.
