I do not qualify in the different categories where supplements are needed; however, I am such a simply eater that my multi-vitamin helps me gets what I am missing. I don’t know how I would be daily if I did not have a supplement to help me.
i should probably take a multivitamin just because i know i dont get what i need from my food.
Most of us don’t. Read the labels not all multivitamins are created equal.
I also take supplements which Dr. Oz recommend here and I am taking it because I believe that I don’t get some of them from my daily food and it works for me very well.
Yes make sure you read the labels and do a little research on a multivitamin and brand before choosing one. Since they are not FDA approved it makes it a bit more difficult to know if you are getting the correct amount of supplements.
yea same here
that’s exactly what I do a mens one a day multivitamin
Same here I never take my vitamins.
I take multivitamins because I know I don’t eat right and so I know im not getting what I need from the foods or if I do, im not getting enough.
I try to eat healthy, but I’m sure I could use a multivitamin for women.
I think I need to begin a multivitamin as well. These videos have been an eye opener for my personal health goals.
I agree, I think I should start to take a multivitamin. I never realized the importance of having all of these vitamins. I always thought that I got a lot of these vitamins from my food. However, I think many people do not take a multivitamin because they just do not know that they lack these vitamins in their diet.
Yeah I agree with how most of us do not. But we do have pretty poor health status in the Western culture, nutrition wise. Therefore, I think it does not hurt to take a multi vitamin anyways.
I really think you should take them, They are available on OTC and they are rarely cause toxicity. We really do not have the time to eat food with all those vitamin so we need supplements.
I take a multivitamin but, it does not have Omega 3 so I may need to invest in purchasing an Omega 6 supplement.
i take multivitamins daily.i know im very busy and sometimes dont eat right,so i take them
That’s what I do as well that way if I don’t eat enough throughout my busy day I will still get the vitamins my body needs.
I try to take them but I forget a lot! I wish there was a drink type thing that was offered besides ensure
i take pregnancy vitamins gummies because they have extra stuff in them.
I probably should start taking a daily multivitamin. I am too picky of an eater not to.
I probably should be taking a vitamin because I do not get enough calcium and do not like juice.
Yes, if you can’t eat the foods you need, you do need to take a multi-vitamin.
when i was pregnant i took prenatal vitamins that the doctor prescribed.
I use to be a picky eater, and use to take a multi-vitamin. I have gotten on a better eating scale and it has really helped me out.
I agree with this statement it goes for me as well. I have gotten better over time and I am thankful I have expanded to start to get more of the vitamins I deserve.
I used multivitamins during my pregnancy at well. Some times I worry I’ll get to much of a certain vitamin.
I need to. I am also picky but have started eating better as I have gotten older. I bet you feel better after changing up your diet
I can never remember to take supplements. I buy them with the best intentions, start taking them for a few days and then kind of forget about them. I know I would feel better if I took them on a daily basis.
Same here. I can never remember to take my vitamins or probiotic.
It might be easier to remember if you associate it with a daily task. Such as leaving them next to your alarm clock or leaving them by your toothbrush for after brushing your teeth.
My children are like this! Ironically enough, my family used to take fish oil supplements then switched to taking a multivitamin and I still have to remind them on a daily basis to do so or else they will just leave them on the counter.
I used to be the same way and would always forget to take my supplements when I buy them. However, after I got diagnosed with air-borne allergies, I started having to remember to take that medicine every day and now just include my supplements with them. I take daily women’s multi-vitamins supplements because they have an overall haul of vitamins so that I get a least a little of those vitamins daily if I don’t eat enough throughout the day.
I’ve been considering taking a multi-vitamin again because I know I’m not getting all the nutrients I need. I don’t eat a wide variety of foods.
Same here, I don’t know how I would feel on a daily basis without taking a multi-vitamin.
I try to eat as healthy as I can, but I still take multivitamins too.
I am a very simple eater also I am not a very picky eater. I have to take men supplements because I know for a fact that I would not receive all the vitamins my body needs without taking supplements.
I’m not much of a picky eater and I don’t qualify for any of the categories but I feel like we could all benefit from a multivitamin. My problem is that I forget to take them.
I likely need a supplement because i rarely eat a balanced meal 🙁
I think dietary supplements are good, especially for the elderly. As people get older, what once tasted good may not anymore. I was a CNA and worked in a long-term care facility. It was a challenge to get some of them to eat because it just didn’t taste good to them. That’s when dietary supplements need to be used.
Although elderly need supplements at a great amount, I think that everyone should have the correct amount of supplements to make sure their bodies function properly
Oh yeah elderly don’t get enough from their foods, thank God for the supplements.
I agree elderly people can really benefit from taking supplements, not only is their since of smell and taste declining but some simple don’t enjoy eating as their lifestyles my change by having to eat alone when they might have always eaten with a spouse, this happened to my grandma although it wasn’t her spouse it was her mother that passed and she was then left alone and what bothered her most was eating alone, she took supplements even after she moved in with my parents.
My mom swears by vitamins and says they make her feel so much better daily! I am going to GNC today to get me a womens vitamin and I’m going to note how I feel daily and if I miss one! I hope it relieves some of this exhaustion and aching.
Absolutely, When people get older and are not able to eat what they once used to be able to, you have to resort to something different. In these instances, multivitamins are a life saver! You can get all of your needs in one fell swoop.
Thankful for multi vitamins in these cases!! I always worry about how some elderly are not getting the right vitamins and nutrients they need.
I think supplements are great! I still to this day, know a few people who believe that supplements are “expensive urine” because they don’t believe they work. They just think they are passed right through and out. I definitely believe they work, and I know lots of people who have had great results, including myself. I took a lot of extra supplements while pregnant and I believe it helped a lot. None of us get the amount of vitamins we need in our daily diet, and that makes it necessary for us to make sure that we are getting enough with the help of supplements. Just make sure not to over-do it and choose the right ones.
I agree that supplements not to be over-do because it can be as good as bad effect.
I agree with ya, i also think its very easy to take advantage of supplements. A lot of people tend to think they can replace vitamins and nutrients from supplements instead of getting them from food.
I have taken vitamins/supplements for YEARS. I wish that more medical doctors would be more informed and promote the use of vitamins. They never even ask if you are taking any nor do they suggest any… I can tell a real difference if I do not take my vitamins – my energy drops and I am less focused. Find a good health food store and ask questions.!
I agree, I have never had a doctor ask me. I am sure there is something I should be taking and I’m going to look into this more. I believe it is very important to make sure you are taking the right vitamins/supplements.
I am honestly that type of person until I see improvement.
Choosing the right one is very important. There are some generic brands that actually contain very little of the advertised vitamin!
I believe that they can work but you do have to do research on which ones. Some may not be good and some may be the ones that a person is needing. It helps get enough vitamins for our daily intake.
multi-vitamin, vitamin d levels, fish oil, & chromium, according to Dr. Oz.
Hmmmm, I wonder if I should start taking more than the two supplements that I already take.
Dietary supplement, at least half U.S. adults collectively sped tens of billions of dollars a year on dietary supplement.
And just think, people are always complaining about the fact that healthy foods are more expensive! If people shopped for more healthy fresh fruits and vegetables and meats, perhaps there would not be such a market for multiple dietary supplements.
I completely agree! The foods are available in the stores and at farmers markets. We need to start eating healthier as a country honestly!
I agree that supplements shouldn’t be necessary. Especially in America where all types of foods are plenty available.
When I do my workout regiment, I take 4 mulit-vitamins a day. That adds up and gives a crazy amount of money to these companies.
Video OK but not so much information.
I think that multivitamins would benefit to everyone. Because most people don’t get everything that they need out of their diet. I know I don’t, which is why I take a multivitamin daily.
For some reason I get a bad headache when I take a multivitamin. What brand do you usually take?
I get most of my vitamins from my prenatal ones, but I probably need to find another one to give me whatever I’m missing.
we need vitamin’s.
People’s of all ages can benefit from taking dietary supplement.
I agree. In this day and time, we need to supplements, because our foods are not as healthy as they were when I was growing up.
I believe diet and healthy eating are the only ways to lose weight the right way. But, maybe their is something to some of these supplements.
I totally agree! Even with the best diet pills you still have to lower your calories and exercise!
I actually learned a lot from this video. I needed to know what supplements are for who. I often have questioned if I should be taking any supplements, and obviously I should be taking vitamin supplements to help with everyday health and omega 3s.
Supplements are good to take. Especially if you work long hours and are unable to eat as often as you need to. Most people that work, hardly every eat nutritious.
I work a lot of hours and with school also it is hard to get all your nutrients in so I take supplements to help me stay healthy.
Very true. It’s very hard with work, school, or doing both. If you are always on the move eating healthy can be a challenge.
That is my issue as well. Working full time I cannot get the right nutrition I need. After watching this video I now know what supplements are good for what and will look into starting some of them.
I loved every second of this video plenty of information and kinda funny to 🙂
I take a multivitamin every morning with my breakfast.
So do I!
I do as well! I can tell a difference if i skip a day.
I believe vitamins are a great thing as long as a healthy diet is in place to help compensate.
I agree. We need to have a healthy diet along with proper vitamins!
I’ve always thought the dietary supplements were just for fitness buffs, pregnant women, and elderly people~!! The british accents just clarified it for me~!! 😉 ♥♥♥ Lol, the video was good, but the beat-boxing in the background was a bit distracting.
After this I am going to start takings some vitamin pills!
I have never taken and type of vitamin or pill that is daily. I am going to try and start taking a vitamin once a day. I think it will help my weak immune system!
It very well might! I try to take a multivitamin daily. Sometimes I just have a hard time remembering!
I have been working out at the gym for quite some time now, and 1 thing that I never do is use supplements. I get that it can increase muscle size and strength quickly, but I also feel like I don’t particularly need that. I think that with a well-balanced diet, I won’t need supplements for muscle gain.
I work out too and don’t take vitamin or mineral supplements but I do use protein powder. I mix it in soy milk for a shake. I don’t really do it to gain muscle necessarily, although I know it does that too… but I do it for energy and to keep me from getting so hungry. I eat breakfast and then work out then go to class. my lunch break isn’t until 1 o’clock and I just cant make it in class if I am so hungry so after my workout I drink a protein shake or at least eat a protein bar.
I think your right. A lot of people are dependent on supplements, its better to gain muscle strength naturally.
I have always felt uneasy about taking vitamins or supplement pills unless recommended by a doc because I am not sure if it is healthy for me to take or not. I can see however how the elderly and people that are lactose intolerant need to take vitamin supplements to get the nutrients they are lacking.
I refuse to take any kind of supplements to get vitamins or nutrients if I can get them from vegetables and fruits and other natural sources I will do that. Now I do realize other people actually need them like pregnant women and older people and people with health issues.
I personally don’t take any type of vitamin or any pill that is daily. But i always have had a weak immune system and i think starting to take a one day vitamin that includes everything could help me out!
The first video had a lot of useful information, and I know everyone would benefit from taking vitamins and extra supplements especially the omega-3 fatty acid. I just didn’t realize the specifically the amount a pregnant woman, the elderly, people with food allergies, and high performance athletes needed to take. Great video!
When I jumped on board with the latest fitness craze, I spent a large amount of money on supplements. This is something I now regret, I did not have enough knowledge on supplements to make an educated decision. This video was full of a lot of great info.- enough that I now feel more informed on supplements and who needs what type.
I know how you feel. If you are not careful, you can spend way to much money on all of these supplements. I have a cabinet full of supplements.
Yeah you really have to be careful of what supplements you take.
After watching this video, I don’t think I get enough of my nutrients daily. I don’t want to take multi vitamins though because vitamins aren’t even FDA approved. I thought about that. People can basically put anything they want and you wouldn’t even know.
It’s good to know what nutrients and vitamins you need though for the health.
That’s scary, FDA approved would be best, I agree!
Great videos. I was actually given a very nice book on eating healthy and it has tons of info on supplements and vitamin content in foods. It is titled, The Perricone Promise. It has a lot of the information we heard in the videos and even more. The only think I don’t like about the book is that a lot of the items are somewhat expensive. But, the videos give great alternatives to high priced items that are beneficial to your health.
There is no way that I get 100% of the nutrients that I need every day with the foods I eat. I am now considering taking a daily supplement.
I love Dr. Oz and it was interesting to know what supplements he takes. I myself take a multi-vitamin but i might look into the other three, hey if Dr. Oz says so then it must be some good advice.
I love him too!
I enjoy watching his show. He always have information that is helpful
Good old Dr. Oz! I absolutely love this guy!
I take a daily multi-vitamin and fish oil. I may consider the chromium and Vitamin D as well now. It seems that most of the things that Dr. Oz suggests carry long term health benefits. I am very interested in helping out our North American diet because with the lifestyle that is so pushed in our culture we definitely do not get all of the nutrients that we need for daily body functions.
Supplements can be very helpful when we’re not able to get enough of the nutrients we need out of the food we eat.
Yes, they can be but still as we all know the best vitamin contents to be consumed come from all natural foods (in most cases)!
I think that my main problem is that I am already taking a few pills for HTN or cholesterol, a fish oil, etc. I do not want to start taking more pills on top of the ones that I already take. I can see the benefit but no one likes taking pills every single day.
I know I need to take a multivitamin because I definitely don’t get what I need from my diet.
I am the same way, I could probably use a supplement in my diet.
I had such limited knowledge of supplements before this. Now I see just how important supplements can be especially to certain groups of people. I might need to take a closer look into these supplements and start taking some myself.
I wish dietary supplements were better regulated. I know with all the ads we see we are either taking or know some one who is taking something that is not food for them. I’m sure I have. If you watch TV you see all kinds of ads advertising diet drugs and supplements claiming all kinds of impossible results.
I think most people could benefit from supplements, even if it is only a multivitamin. When I was pregnant my doctor was very keen on me taking a pregnantly vitamin everyday, as most doctors are. I take an iron supplement everyday now. I learned a lot about supplements from these videos
A lot of this information I already knew so they just helped to remind me. My grandparents owned a Health Store and so I have a good knowledge on most all of the vitamins. I did learn about chromium vitamins though, I never knew much about them.
My problem is that I am already taking a few pills for HTN or cholesterol, a fish oil, etc. I do not want to start taking more pills on top of the ones that I already take. I can see the benefit but no one likes taking pills every single day
I agree with these videos. I have two children, and the first one was born with a very rare neural tube defect. There is speculation that me being Diabetic had something to do with it, but with my second pregnancy, I was taking folic acid (I did not during the first pregnancy but started after my first child was born by order of a geneticist) and my daughter was born completely healthy, whereas my son, was not. As for Chromium, it does work rather well for blood sugar stabilizing. I take cinnamon with chromium added in a pill and it helps drastically.
I am somewhat scared to take supplements since they aren’t prescribed by my doctor, but a multivitamin probably wouldn’t hurt since I don’t eat much meat.
I take a multi-vitamin once a day and it’s not a bad thing to do , it’s the people that start going overboard on supplements that get into harming themselves rather than helping.
i agree with this. Some people get far into taking so many supplements and i hate when people rely on medicine so much. But I agree that the multi vitamin once a day is good!
I think companies are getting rich on all of the different supplements on the market. I’m with you, a multivitamin is all I need.
I agree with this video totally. I take a womens one a day vitamin. They seem to be working fine and keep my hair and nails looking good. My son takes a flinstone vitamin aswell.
There are a lot of different people who take supplements for a lot of different reason
I never thought about the fact that our foods might not be as nutrient rich as they used to be. I hate taking pills but I have found that being about to get all of my vitamins and minerals seems impossible without a little help so I take a multivitamin to close the gaps in my diet.
It’s kinda disappointing that foods aren’t as nutrient rich as they used to be. Pregnant women need folic acid wasn’t new info for me. Elderly people with altered taste buds and not eating need vitamin D was new. I never knew that they had anything to do with each other.
I agree it is disappointing that the foods we eat aren’t as nutrient rich as they use to be. and i also had no idea about the elderly with altered taste buds.
It is very disappointing that the industry is like it is but on another hand it is good because in some situations I think that people need more dietary supplements. Yes the food industry is trying to make a dollar on the cheapest food they can produce for more profit.
I dont really believe you can get all you need from a pill. But im sure im wrong. If you need to get more of a supplement I do believe you will just have to buy it.
I think supplements are helpful especially for people that may have some problems getting enough nutrition. Although, I do think that eating lots of vegetables, fruits, meats and many healthy foods is a excellent way to increase having good nutrition.
I agree 100% with you on that one. There are so many advertisments out there about “the magic pill” or the “quick weight loss”. Those methods are not permanent weight loss changes. Im sure there are some supplements are there that can help you recieve some of the things you need but eating right should always be number 1 if changing your health is a priority.
Most of us realistically don’t eat a perfect diet, so I figure many of us could benefit from a carefully selected multivitamin. I do have a problem with the huge “weight loss pill” industry. I think they mainly just function to make a ton of money of people hoping for an easy fix to their weight problems.
I can agree with this for sure! Elderly people is who i take care of on a normal basis and many of my clients dont have the right nutrition in their meals and have to take supplements to keep a healthy weight and to make them feel more like themselves. Prenatal vitamins for pregnant women is a hundred percent correct they are so helpful and make you feel healthier as well as having more energy for those long nights of kicking in ribcages
I think fish oils and multi vitimins are benificial. There are lots things that we dont get in our diet anymore because we are too modernized.
i really agree with this
I agree with you on that! Some of the vitamins and minerals our bodies need we can’t get in our diets.
The only new information I encountered here. I was not familiar with chromium supplements. It helps with blood sugar and synthesizing energy from other sources. It has definite uses related to cholesterol levels, coronary heart disease, and diabetes.
I have tried supplements before and weight loss supplements but didn’t really have the knowledge on them. Good to know what each type of people need! The 4 daily ones are good to know as well.
That was once me when I was pregnant , I needed an extra supplement of Iron which I got from iron pills, prenatal pills and folic acid.
Also prenatal vitamins can increase constipation. Im sure this was a problem too.
I don’t take pills of any kind. So I will have to figure out a proper food diet.
There are lots of liquid vitimans that you can find at health food sores that are great multi vitamins. They make some which are all natural and blended as a multi vitamine. I took one a while back for about two months and was pleasntly surprised. They are baisically blended minerals and fruit. You can get a bottle (60 days) for about 20 bucks.
I absolutely love my multi vitimans that i take every day and they make feel really good but when i don’t take them i see a huge difference.
I think a multi-vitamin could be beneficial to most people. Nobody eats 100% like they should to get all of their necessary vitamins and nutrients, so a little help might be a good thing. However, I have heard of some cases where perfectly healthy people start taking vitamins and develop liver problems.
I know it is very beneficial for me because of my unhealthy picky eating habits. Without multi-vitamins, I would not have a very good bill of health. They are so useful for people like me.
I agree msmith…I raised picky eaters and I believe that the multi-vitamins that I made them take helped them both grow to strong health adults.
Yes they are! i have a family friend that is so picky and she has to take multivitamins every single day because of it.
I used to take a multivitamin every morning before school.
Yikes! Liver problems are no joke. Of course no one is 100% on their diet, but we defiantly should try to consume what we need and try our best not to depend on multivitamins.
I also have heard this and I stay away from multivitamins because I have a healthy diet.
