The first video i didn’t really enjoy because i love to eat all meats! It is making me think i don’t want to eat. I also like my meat well done and it said the redder the meat the leaner!! I tend to eat lots of carbs though like the second video talks about. These videos are getting more interesting though! I am learning more that i should just stop eating because i am doing it all wrong.

My family would riot if I cut out that much of their meat. I get my carbs and starches mixed up, usually to my detriment.

I learned a few things in that first video for sure about the proteins. I didn;t think we needed 80g for a woman per day. I like most of what you can eat to get the protein too, so that helps.

Okay, now I’m going to starve to death. I wonder if that’s better than a heart attack? I guess I could cut down on meat, but I love pork. And cheese, how do you do without that? I will have to do some real thinking after watching this video. I had no idea the portions should be so small.

I did not realize cheese was so bad for us. I love cheese I eat it all by itself. I am crushed after watching the video along with the hotdogs. If I want to live I guess I better make some changes.

Video 1 informs you on the nutritional benefits you get from Protein..which are they help rejuvenate tissue and repair muscle mass. which might be very helpful to cancer patient needing the protein. Need to avoid bacon and sausage these are also high in saturated fat along with protein. Limit red meat consumption.and, always buy lean ground beef and trim all visible fat from any poultry, and pork. The less red meat you eat the better off you are. It is recommended no more than 11oz. per week. Fish seafood good substitute salmon, herring, and sardines are all good choices because of the beneficial omega 3 oil that promotes good heart health.Dairy product are much need part of your Protein intake because it has active cultures that replaces bacteria in bowels.cheese very limited becase it is very high in fat along with your Protein.Vegetables are a good source because they offer a variety of nutrient and fiber along with protein with no fats along with it. Balanced plate with whole grains, and vegetables and potion and type size of any meats good plate.

I found the last video very benefical to me. Being a vegatarian, I believed I wasn’t getting enough protein. I knew alternate ways to get protein, such as nuts, but I have never like any type of nuts. I do eat plenty of beans, tofu, and soy, though, which I learned have lots of protein. I was pleased to find out that there are high-protein vegetables, because I eat a lot of veggies.

I dint know not covering the grill with alluminum foil would cause carcinagens. They talked about alot of foods that vegans can eat that have protein in them and i didnt know anyof the foods she was talking about. I feel sorry for veganscause i love beef too much to become one.

Yeah I have heard this before on one of the morning show with some barbecue going on. The chard smoke and ash from either kerosene soaked charcoal or wood being used It not enough to harm someone at any one time. Although over life time is a source for some types of cancer.

I really enjoyed these videos and I appreciated the plug for a vegan/vegetarian diet. Many vegetarians get flack that they don’t get enough protein because most protein is found in meat. Finally, people are starting to understand the truth about protein and they are educating those who are misinformed. Here are a few new things that I learned from these videos. Protein helps to rejuvanate tissues in need of repair, heal wounds and maintain muscle mass. Women need a minimum of 80 grams of protein per day and men need a minimum of 100 grams of protein per day. Vegans can get protein from beans and lentils, veggie burgers, hot dogs and sausages, bulgar wheat, seitan, tempeh, quinoa, soy products, tofu, nuts and nut butters, high protein vegetables and hummus.

I have cut all beef out of my diet. Just seeing the grease in a pan after frying a hamburger can help assist people in that. These videos are very informative but discouraging at the same time, because I am doing so much wrong apparently.

Reply

butch t June 14, 2011 at 11:47 pm

I am sorry you feel that way cause I cant just cut out my beef completely. Also, i wish you all the best in your efforts to not eat beef.

I had no idea the redder the meat the leaner the meat. I also didnt know you could eat too much protein. So I need to pay attention to portion size too.

Reply

LLM June 13, 2011 at 3:30 pm

I liked how informative these videos are. I did not know about the color of the red meat for the more lean they are. Its hard for me to eat alot of protein because I do not eat enough foods with protein so the video with the chicken informed me to eat chicken to get some good protein along with protein powder. The vegan video was beneficial even though I am not one it still helps me understand how to get more protein into my diet.

When I was a small child my grandfather farmed soybeans. We ground them in with foods. Very healthy. I am a portion size nightmare! I appreciate the portion size of beef-big ribeye not good. Too much fat!

I knew you have to eat some protein, never knew that you could eat to much or to little or protein. My husband always wants his meat fried, but I thinking we are going to grilled from now on. Start eating healthier.

Reply

J. M.O. June 15, 2011 at 3:23 pm

The way you prepare your meat has a lot to do with the amount of fat you will actually have when you are through. Some people get used to that high fat fried taste and it is very hard to get them to change their ways. Although grilling your meat is a good way because grilling gives it a better flavor with less fat in the end.

This class is beginning to depress me. Each video I watch makes me realize that almost everything I enjoy is just plain bad for me. And if I do like it, the portion size is so small. It brought a tear to my eye when I pictured a steak the “size of a deck of cards” on a plate, looking all pathetic and small. Do they even sell card deck sized steaks at a restaurant? I really have to start paying more attention to my portion size.

Reply

RRJ June 13, 2011 at 1:30 pm

I am so glad I am not the only one who feels that way. Its almost as if everything you like to eat is bad for you in some way.

Reply

llj2 June 14, 2011 at 4:35 pm

I agree with you. I had heard a long time ago, the meat portion should be the size of the palm of your hand. But they certainly are selling palm size T-Bone steaks. We are just supposed to be able to not eat the whole thing I guess, yeah right like that’s going to happen. lol.

Reply

HMH2 June 14, 2011 at 7:20 pm

I agree with you that it gets discouraging sometimes watching these videos. The good news is that we have choices that we can make both good and bad. I’m trying to just take one step at a time and eat a little bit better today than what I did yesterday. Hang in there!

To follow these guidelines will be difficult. I have never liked hot dogs or many lunch meats. But only 11 ounces of red meat a week? and three eggs? Wow, do I need to change my diet.

I dont eat alot of meat but I do like eating hamburgers. So many things to consider when you eat. Is this too much fat, enough protein. I definetly will change my way of eating.

These videos were great and very informative. I didnt know that the color of the meat was a indicator to the leanness of the meat! Although I do not eat red meat, my family does and this will definitely come in handy at the grocery store. Another thing I did not know was that grilling is bad for your meat! I grill all the time! This was disappointing but I am sure glad that I know now!

Reply

JM2 June 9, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Yeah, same lesson learned about grilling. My wife and I primarily cook on the grille during the summer. That is one thing I won’t be fixing though. As long as what I’m grilling is itself healthy, I’ll gladly deal with the negatives of the actual grilling process. I have to take baby steps!!

Reply

aak2 June 6, 2011 at 1:34 pm

I do not have cancer, but I am prone to kidney stones. The doctor said eating too much red meat could be a cause of them. I do love my hamburgers and hot dogs! I do try to limit how much red meat I have to avoid kidney stones. If you have ever had one you know how badly they hurt! Also, I think that if I knew how to cook eating right wouldn’t be a big problem. Some of the things on the vegan video looked good! And if you really think about it, it is really gross to be eating a cow or pig. If I had enough will strength I would be vegan.

Reply

lmp2 June 5, 2011 at 6:18 pm

i had no idea that the redder the meat the leaner the meat. i also liked how the gave you the serving size for beef. we eat alot of beef at my house. i have never been a fan of soy products. i have a friend that is vegan and she is in her 70s and does yoga but she doesn’t look a day over 55. i was amazed and she said it was what she ate that kept her so young. i guess she was right.

Reply

TNS-2 June 7, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I did not know that the redder the meat the leaner it was as well! This is definitely interesting. I have also heard that yoga helps you stay young. Maybe we should all try it!

Hey are there any vegans here? If so what does the texture of the alternative food taste like? Is it the same as eating the non substituted food. I like that the videos shared the amount of servings or how much total to consume per day. The planning a weekly meal was very knowlegable. I gotta do better with my meal plans for my family

I am curios about how they taste too. Aren’t most vegans healthy and at a normal weight? I wonder if it would be hard to go a vegan diet?

All this talk about steroids and antibiotics pumped into our food animals has really gotten me frightened of eating any type of store bought meat. I would buy organic but the prices are always so outrageous. I guess it would be better to pay the price now then to wait and pay it later with bad health or even cancer. I have seriously thought about raising my own chickens again. There is nothing like fresh eggs. I do not eat red meat because my family has a history of heart disease. I like chicken and love fish. Now that I know fish is probably the best choice for meat, I think I will eat it more often. I don’t want to be a vegan because I love my meat but in todays day and age being a vegan don’t sound that bad.

Reply

lmp2 June 5, 2011 at 6:23 pm

not to long ago i had heard on the radio about how they were putting steroids and antibiotics in the animals to make them bigger. i had no idea how bad it was for us. have you noticed how big kids are these days compared to 15 years ago. i believe it has to do with all the unnatural elements they are pumping into our livestock to make more money. i love fish as well and i know now that i am not doing my self any good by frying them, but it is so hard not to eat it. it is sooooooo yummy. but i guess for my well being i better change.

PLP June 16, 2011 at 12:38 am

I agree about the antibiotics they put in the animals feed. I fully believe it is affecting our kids especially taking them into puberty early also.

Its amazing these videos lay out exactly what a person should be eating. I feel I only eat a quarter of protein that should be eatin. I eat to much cheese as well. My friend is a vegan and I never know what to make when she comes over for dinner, the last video gave me great ideas. I had no idea the redder the meat the higher the protein it has.

Reply

C-W March 4, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I guess i should eat less cheese because i consume tons of it on pretty much everything being served. The advice for a vegitarian meal a day would probably be in my best intrest to rest from large amounts of fatty red meat in my diet. i should also make the portions smaller. i have also always wondered how vegans consumed all the amonts of protiens they need throughout the day without meat.

I knew about the carcinogic content of charring foods. We used to grill out all the time when I was married before, when I went to nursing school, I learned this. NOw we hardly ever grill, and we use a cover, and we do put a marinade on it. I try and find organic meats and eggs. I used to d a better job. I need to start looking harder again.

???? thats crazy! If i buy them half go bad before u can eat them!!! If u have a large family its cheeper and filling to make speg with meat than a large chicken salad for everyone!!! Thats even if all the kids will eat it to start with!

I didn’t realize cancer patients weren’t suppose to eat red or processed meat. I also didn’t know that charred meat was bad. I always thought that was a good thing! I didn’t know that yogurt and chicken was that good for you, and that you cannot absorb a whole lot at one time. And half of the ingredients for the vegan meal- I didn’t even know what they were!

Reply

Madge C September 12, 2010 at 10:52 pm

And the list goes on and on…..I feel like I should have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. I know I am overweight but, have most often thought of myself, as being pretty healthy. In the last 5 years I have given up most fried foods, and turned to the grill. Well– seems like I messed that one up too– because I LIKE my food charred black on one side and well done on the other, now I know I will be making adjustments in that area as well. The list of how not to do things keeps growing right along with the acquired healthy knowledge of the do’s and don’ts of maintaining a healthy diet and a healthier lifestyle.

I do not want to be a vegan, just all those beans and soy products would blow me away, as well as anyone else within a 10 foot radius of me. The cheese thing was a little contradictory to me though.

Reply

Taylor B September 12, 2010 at 5:27 pm

Okay, I’m a guy, and guys like meat…however, I eat way too much red meat in a week. I could eat two servings (2 servings the size of a deck of cards) during one meal. I need to cut back on the amount of red meat I eat and switch over to more lean cuts of poultry and fresh fish.

I’m like Lauren D, when it comes to my diet, the things I do wrong outnumber the things I do right.

I liked how the videos showed how easy it is to get protein. I didn’t realize how much protein some things have.

The videos were very helpful as for teaching us how much protein we should take in for the day. The videos are very helpful with the meats and which ones to choose and it will help me be better at my job also because I actually work in the meat department. Now the only question I have is where the lady was explaining how many servings of different meats we need for the week, she said we should do 2 servings of fish, I don’t like fish so what should be done for the 2 servings of fish.

Reply

Jessi R. September 3, 2010 at 5:04 pm

The second video really helped me to realize how easy it can be to get the amount of protein necessary for a healthy diet. I learned that typically a woman can absorb about 20 or 30 grams of protein in a meal or a snack and that it is very easy to get these amounts of protein. I was relieved to learn that I am currently doing pretty well taking in enough protein. This is mainly because I love chicken and I do purchase the skinless type to cut down on the fat.

We have been fried meat eaters for a long time and recently we bought a george foreman grill and the meat is awesome. I can hardly believe meat should be the side dish instead of the main course because it is so American to have large portions of meat. I do eat different type of nuts often so that is a plus but my family has a long way to go to get healthy. The vegetarian meals didn’t seem bad so I just might give it a try.

My list of things I should do is way longer than my list of things I do right. I get shocked everytime by these videos. I agree about the foil, who knew it was costly to your health not to use it? MRC2 M Cottrell June 6, 2011 at 2:32 pm

It is not that all the good tasting food is bad for us it is that we have become accustomed to these foods that taste so good that are very bad that are taking priority over the good tasting foods that are good for us. Try eating more veggies, even grilled; they are so good and good for you. Have you ever tried grilled pineapple? It is absolutely amazing! You can look online for great recipes for veggies and how to spice them up to your liking. Grains are also very good. Try eating some couscous, they are awesome and I love them.

Sparks MR October 7, 2011 at 1:48 pm

It’s all conditioning. Try grilling broccoli, it’s great! The whole charred fats/cancer thing is quite scary.
